Are Ships IDs permanent now?

What happens if you repackage a ship and then assemble it again? Does that change things?

Tested that too. That is the only thing I've found so far that resets the ID. Assuming you have no rigs or you can afford to replace them, that is the way to get a new "license plate".

PS: No idea if the new ID is assigned when you "assemble" the ship or when you "undock".

IMO each ship should have a visible license plate.
