Same thing as the AT thread, haters, gonna, hate. /shrug

I like bad jokes.
I like puns.
I like silly facial hair commentary.

So far the AT has been fantastic for me. Keep in mind guys that they have to watch their own stream to see some of the ECM effects and whatnot, all the while commentating on the action live. Its not an easy job, and they are volunteering to do this. If its really bothering you then just turn the sound off and talk with your friends about it, but personally I'm enjoying this AT just fine so far.

Yuller from Pendulum of Doom should be a commentator. Everything would be much more interesting then.

I think the whole thing is Armature at best. I never gotten use to these guys showing up looking like they just got out of bed, with there bed heads and such. Even in the finals, you would think CCP would escalate there game a bit. They never do. Listen this is meant as feed back CCP not a slam. You should consider a mandatory dress code. Select people with some experience at doing this sort of thing. Raise your bar!

1) Screen people for screen presents, and commentating ability. Yes an effort has to be made.

2) Each and every person selected needs to viewed and tested prior to going on the air. Yes more necessary effort.

3) Dress code, AHHH yes. Sports coats & ties, possibly with a CCP STAFF name tag. Must be awake, functional, and
ready to commentate. Looking Professional!

4) Try to make sure the back drop doesn't look like a messy teenager's room. Send them a large poster, have them hang
this behind them in such a way as it looks good, and professional. Remember this represents CCP.

5) Oh yea, they need to know something about the game. Stop focusing on them being famous in the game, start
focusing on there natural broadcasting ability's. Remember this represents who you are CCP.

6) Oh yea, they need to pay attention to the match

Oh yea one last they need to represent as many different facets of the PVP side of the game as possible, from all alliances, (not just Goon or Test). If I see the special guest from Veto one more time I'm going to feel a little weird. Who the heck is Veto anyway?

No it's not an easy job! But this sort of thing comes natural to some.

kinda reminds me of the friday night football games on tv here... you get commentators who, during play start talking about the weather, and how it affects thier joints, and then thier remedies, and so on and so forth and oh wait someone scored yell scream in amazement.. yeah right

then there was the time they spent a good 10 minutes discussing political issues during a match..

basically, in that light what i have seen from watching the tournament live feeds, the guys commentating eve are trumping the "pro commentators" in aussie rugby league lol

before worrying about the commentators maybe think for a moment about how CCP presented itself through Soundwave's comments and how well your vision of "professional" commentators in suits would match that style.

edit: I was disappointed by factual mistakes some commentators made which were only occasionally corrected by their counterpart - drones were almost completely ignored (even when ECM or webbing drones seemed to have considerable impact on the match), ECCM was sometimes missed, information on points/webs and velocity was occasionally not paid attention to and/or misread (e.g. commentator claims some kiting Tengu receives damage because it is tackled - only it isn't tackled at all), effectiveness of EWAR and counter-measures like FoF missiles was usually not commented on (which is no big deal in the 6man format as you usually notice very fast if jams hit but in 12man this will be important), gun/missile types and t3 subsystems were generally left unmentioned, arena boundaries were not paid any attention to at all (several times the commentators only noticed that a ship had been destroyed due to boundary violations long after the fact, can't recall any "player X is getting dangerously close to the arena boundary now..." statements from the commentators at all), ...

The general style of commentating was varied and pleasant in my opinion - but some commentators obviously had a hard time following all the information presented by the match as it unfolded (and giving us viewers an idea of the match that went beyond what we could see by just watching the healthbars) and talked more about the match as it should have happened according to theory-crafting rather than about the match as it actually happened before their eyes.
Some more practical experience commentating eve pvp would probably have helped a lot with that.

The SC(bw) and SC2 community really understands how to do commentary ... here at EVE we do not.

We need a good play by play man who knows how to get excited ... not 2 color commentary people. Saddly, even the CCP people working the cameras can't seem to follow the action 80% of the time.

EVE battles can look so epic, I wish CCP would take some time to focus on the production of one of these tournaments.

well my post isnt really about commentary but about visual side of the show

i did read many negative posts on youtube as i just started catching up on past 2 days of tournament

i actually like the new feed and all the information it gives
thou it could be lil smaller as currently it takes like 1/4 of screen plus corp names on top of that
only thing that bugs me personally is feed from commentators skipping way too much/fast from one to other... so
here.. just an example i made in 1min of paint how i would like it to look :P

about zastrow first day think he was doing it by watching stream.. so cant really blame him he was behind ?
still i guess they could put more effort into commentating even thou this are only qualifiers..
