Why are these forums so bad?

I've been posting in many forums over the years: the Something Awful forums, the battle.net forums, MMORPG.com and all the other comment boards of IGN and massively.com - but Eve Online has one of the most disgusting forums on the internet. Let me tell you why:

- Arguments repeat themselves, over, and over again: buff Hulks, nerf hulks, buff titans, nerf titans, ban Mittani, free Mittani....
- The ISD team are extremely hostile, and threads are being locked like crazy - for only minor offences
- 99% of the time, forum bans apply to only a single character (I would know). For a game which encourages multi-box play, this is absolutely ludicrous.
- People like me, make threads complaining about other ****** threads - and end up getting even more threads locked.

This is how you fix the above issues:

- Loosen the ISDs' involvement in forum moderation
- Ban IPs, accounts - both in game and out of game
- Have a clear set of rules which are displayed in either a pop-up or bold menu link - not on a hidden wiki page

Note: If you lock this thread, these forums will burn and shrivel. Listen to my ideas, and then maybe you devs will have a better understanding of your own players' ideas - streamlining the feedback, input and development process.

You may laugh and ridicule the WoW players - but they have enthusasism and spirit for the game they love and play. Sure, there is moaning and complaining, but ideas are actually built upon - and people want one thing, a better game. Here, its all negative and firey.

Occasionally there are ultra bad combo-breaker threads like this one too.

I'm many things, but an alt I am not - especially a goon alt. Believe it or not, there are many SA posters who loathe the "goonfleet" culture - remember folks, the forum was there long before the corp was, and will be there long after the corp collapses.

no, they don't.

they can't spell, they don't understand the basic game mechanics of such a simple game and they have the combined analytical skills of a ******** goldfish.
if you play wow and you want answers to questions you head over to the ej forums, not the battle.net forums.

blizzard had to add an extra difficulty setting to their dungeons, below the current difficulty, so people could actually see the content because the vast majority of players are so bad at the game. then on top of that, so they didn't get left out of getting the good loot, they made the other two difficulties lower themselves over time.

when your player base is that bad you have to design content that gets easier over time to cater to them, you know you're taking money from the vulnerable.

Posting in the SA forums is a pre-requisite for GS membership, isn't it?

The demographic Blizzard are targetting are the casuals - typically people not very hot on the old keyboard. Their spelling and forum posting skills may be poor as a result of that, however it doesn't muddle the intention of their posts. Spelling and grammar mean nothing when a good heart is present.

One of the many optional ways of getting in, but 99% of the people on GF aren't SA posters, just pubbies and spies who paid $10 to get in. Doesn't mean having an SA account automatically puts you in the corp.

INB4AUTHENTICATOR111!

You are about to engage in an arguement with a forum alt,  this is your final warning.

being a casual player has NOTHING to do with basic things like being able to type a coherent sentence.

all of the posts are from crap players saying "make it easier" or good players saying "stop removing the fun from the game" sadly, most of the players are bad, so the game gets made easier and easier. quite sad.

Thats just silly. Just my current ban would cos them 210USD if they did that. If everyone with my IP had current characters it would ban 3 people and cost another 104USD. The idea is especially bad IMHO.

all of these problems can be traced to the fact moderators are hired not ensure forum quality but to ensure that a specific criteria of rules are enforced. A thread can be as stupid, libelous and full of blatant forum alt trolling and cowardposting as it possibly can be and mods won't step in unless it isn't technically a "rant". After 9 years they finally made it a rule to not baselessly accuse CCP employees of professional misconduct after like 3 solid months of posters flooding threads with it. They should make it a rule "just don't post stupid ****" and start enforcing it.

This right here. A million times, this.

If you don't want people to treat you like an idiot, don't post like an idiot. Not a difficult concept.

My grandmother, a very formal and dignified woman (gives lectures on a regular basis) does not type in the manner in which she speaks. Her sentences miss words, are not capitalized and contain very little punctuation - yet she is part of the demographic Blizzard target.
