..can we also start to bash all non-scandinavians who can't pronounce the names from our mythology? Or spell it, for that matter. And then we can put some swedes, danes, norwegians and hell we'll even invite the finns and icelandic scrubs to discuss which of our native versions that is most accurate.

To begin with, we need to remove all the silly icelandic i's that are being added in funky places.
Sleipner, Loke, Mjölner, Oden (if he was in the game), oh and ofc we need to teach people to pronounce the ö so we don't have to hear the despicable Rangarok.. it needs it's proper ök-end tbfh.

..or we could just accept this is an international game, where people pronounce stuff the way that it's normal for them to read it. I know, that's radical tho, ain't it? Shocked

-snip- please icelandic is nearly identical to ancient norse, you danes, norwegians and swedes are the scrubs in this scenerio
our pronunciations and spellings are far more accurate and superior to yours !!

No. The origins go even further back than that, we'd have to involve the german folktraditions (i.e. old German) to get it more accurate. The "problem" we face here is that the most famous of the older compilations, happens to be icelandic. Given that, it's certainly a possibility that Iceland managed to maintain the old language we spoke on mainland, before our fugitives and scum fled to the isle over there (it's actually worse than the Australian situation, where prisoners were deported. We had murderers and thiefs that fled to Iceland.. and people who tried to avoid certain death, haha).

TL;DR there's a possility the "true" (if there's such a thing) pronounciation, would have more similarities with old German, than with old Icelandic. I'll give you one thing tho; even tho the oldest norse mythology appears on mainland, and even tho Iceland was populated by people actually coming from mainland, there's an obvious risk that the mainland languages have been more tainted over the years. P

Edit; Oh and this makes it even more fun, when you realise how most of the people that is so anal about pronounciations.. are often English-speaking, or Americans, and irony is, as pointed out above, the Germans would have more 'right' to explain the 'proper' pronounciation. If anyone, non-scandinavian, that is.

AFK-cloaking in a system near you.

Hmm I don't know about all that I just know I can read 1000 year old texts from Norway / Iceland / Sweden because our language hasn't changed much over the years.
Of course you can always go farther back, but I figure Icelandic's about as good as you're likely to easily get when it comes to "correctly" pronouncing words and names from the Norse mythology.

As the old german fart that i´m i totaly support your post.

Also most ships would gain strenghts through their old-german-pronounciated (?) name. We have / had a lot of strong letters - like the "rollin´ R" (especially down in the south of bavaria).

If i´d been not so lazy i´d record and upload voice-files of shipnames. but meh, old and lazy.

Those aren't "races" so those can't be classified as "racial attacks", get over it.
