Do you have any other experience with this game? What is the difference between your 2003 born character that's been inactive for 10 years and one that's been started today other than some tweaks, free sp, and holiday gifts? Aren't you just doing a newb tutorial?

Love this story;

Rain6637 wrote:
I also recently bought a 2003 character with a classic name (almost as good as "Bond 007")

but

I'm not training anything, because it is a novelty cyno/scout welp toon, and only needs a clone grated eta replacement (125,000 ISK to replace)

so when players see the name in local, and do the employment history, "wtf that's a 2003 character..."

;-)

cyno alt'ing with style

wouldn't train 'im up tho. keep it welp.

My virginity is busted at 10m skill points and up. And yeah, if someone does look us up, the age could draw odd attention. Lol!

Interesting to learn of the novelty use and no training route. It's been all I can do to not join a corp to let my timer show 10 years in an NPC. Yet as the character is the subject of a book, several years in writing my hands are tied. ;)

Oswald XIII - Thank you for some very good questions. I will try to focus on each one.

- Oswald XIII - "Do you have any other experience with this game?"

Answer : Yes, extensive.

- Oswald XIII - "What is the difference between your 2003 born character that's been inactive for 10 years and one that's been started today other than some tweaks, free sp, and holiday gifts?"

Answer: 2003 accounts are rare, that's why they sell for small billions. The difference is in the birthdate and age of the toon.

Free SP & Holiday gifts? Where? I always miss those.

- Oswald XIII - "Aren't you just doing a newb tutorial?["

Answer: No, those do not normally span a few days or more. This one is years long. And no one disputes the training plan.

Happy New Year!

Chapter 6 : Learning to Fly ~ Navigation

My Training Queue

In the not too distant past a Capsuleer was at a disadvantage when learning to learn. Indeed, the Universities required skill training with the books of learning. As New Eden advanced with all of it's flaws the Universities eliminated this requirement and even refunded learning skills. All books of learning were destroyed. Had that not happened, many would have lost interest in the educational system itself.

And now to the first new chapter of 2013;

Chapter 6 : Learning to Fly ~ Navigation
===============================

Unless you plan on just sitting in station for any odd reason, consider this chapter to improve your life.

To pilot a ship in New Eden certainly anyone wants to be the best. For me to pilot the "Perfect Drake" I have to be the best. The nice thing about navigational skills is that like learning was, they stick with you for life in a very important manner. While it's way too easy when training to get wrapped up in the mind-frame of "Just L5 Everything!", Navigation is close to that important, but here's how to drop a month off from being "perfect" in a Drake., while all but one skill will make you the best (excluding implants)

I am now training (and will finish in 3 weeks);

NAVIGATION

Acceleration Control
L5 - Provides a 25% bonus to speed when using MicroWarpDrives and Afterburners. Makes me fast as all pros.

Afterburner
L5 - Provides a 25% reduction to Afterburner duration (you slow down faster and more accurate) and a 50% reduction of Capacitor use of the Afterburner. Excellent skill for life.

Evasive Maneuvering
L5 - 25% Improved ship agility (turning, sweeping) with every ship you fly for the rest of your life. Can be trivially improved more with implants.

Fuel Conservation
L5 - 50% reduction in Capacitor need for Afterburners. As the "Perfect Drake" will use an Afterburner II, this L5 is a must.

High Speed Maneuvering
L(4) 20% reduction in ship capacitor use of a MicroWarpDrive. As "The Perfect Drake" will be using an Afterburner instead, training this skill to L4 instead of L5 will save you 20 days, and will only make you 5% slower than the experts only when using a MicroWarpDrive. Proof of no need to just L5 everything.

Navigation
L5 - The Best

Warp Drive Operation
L5 - 50% reduction of capacitor need to start warp, a skill that works with every ship you will ever pilot.

End Chapter 6
=============================================

Thank you for all of the likes , kind compliments and private messages.

The next chapter planned is "The Need For Speed" which will go into the fastest ships in New Eden, Interceptors and the whole training plan has been leading up to that with side benefits.

Another planned chapter is "Hauling Assets" which will address how to move as much freight volume as fast as possible according to value (Blockade Runners and Freighters).

And a sneak peek at what to look for and why to subscribe to this thread; A Bonus Chapter is planned that will be titled "Bribing Your Way To The Top!" that will reveal how to simply purchase Corporate standings.

Would it not be nice to find an agent that would just accept a bribe now and then?
Why risk body ship and soul to gain standings in ways that only politicians can gain
with no real work?

In typical New Eden Style, story comes soon.

Bonus Chapter ~ Buying Your Way To The Top! ~ Bribery 101
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BOND 007 (Ironically) reveals an agent that can be bribed
Training skills suggested;
TRADE L4 0r L5 (Allows you to enter multiple Market Buy and Sell Orders)
BROKER RELATIONS L5 (Reduces your Market fees which are also determined by your Standings)
Took a short trip out to Otitoh, warped over to the Devil's Dig Site and started a conversation with an agent just floating idle, Taru Kubona. You don't have to have any positive Caldari standings, they just can't be below 0.00. Mr. Kubona works for the Mercantile Club. And apparently this gentleman has a rabid desire for Talocan Mechanical Gears. He asked me for (4) of them under the guise of a "Security Mission", silently took what was in my cargohold and my mission was completed, with a nice Security Status increase from Calari's Mercantile Club. So I checked to see if he would do it again. He did.
So I went and used the TRADE skills to set up some Market Buy orders to get as many of these Talocan Mechanical Gears as I could. Bought about 600 or so of them at about 200000 ISK each, and went and talked to Mr. Kubona again.
In less than a few minutes of requesting his sole mission, accepting it, and completing it (according to him), I racked my rankings up with Mercantile Club to over 8.0. As a reward I selected one of their many Jump Clone facilities and installed a shiny new Jump Clone.
While I have been in an NPC now for 9 years and 7 days, it took less than 10 minutes to go from 0.00 to 8.17 Standings with Mercantile Club / Caldari space.
New Jump Clone in Less than 10 minutes
Next New Chapter will be "The Need for Speed" that will address Interceptors and Blockade Runners. The Fastest Ships in EVE.
Cheers,
The next Chapter "The Need for Speed" will be out shortly. Have decided to train up Interceptors to L5 due to the summer of 2013 ship rebalancing. While nothing is published to state so, believe that Interceptors will be split into 4 racial classes in June. So just a few more weeks to get caught up, and next training chapter will be out.
Are you trolling? I'm pretty sure its battlecruiser and destroyers that are going to get split up not interceptors if they split the tech 2 ship skills racially it would make me cry...
Chapter 8 ~ The Need For Speed
========================================
Since the beginning of time man has been obsessed with moving fast. From 17.0 (km/h) with the first Earth Moon Rover, to 17,500 mph with the first Earth Space Shuttle, by rail, air, sea or space there has always been a desire even when lacking a justifiable need. In New Eden a common question by new Capsuleers has always been "What is the fastest ship?" And this is indeed one of them.
If you've been following along with my skill training, the only thing you will need to train up now would be the Interceptor skill. L4 is normally where people stop but I went through with L5. The ship I picked was my Minmatar Racial Interceptor, The Claw. And without putting a huge amount of thought into it I've tossed this little greased lightning monster together, inexpensively for my own needs in about 10 minutes;
CLAW
Rigs - Small Ancillary Current Router I (x2)
Low;
Overdrive Injector System II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II (x2)
Expanded Cargohold II
Mid;
1mn Afterburner II
High;
Salvager I
Cap Stable.
As this is a discussion of skill training and not a debate on ship fittings, I choose this fit for when I need to move something small and expensive, fast. You know, got a PLEX in your hold and wanna poke your nose out at Jita and just punch it!? Thus "The Need for Speed". It has no weapons as I won't be firing on anyone. The salvager is in place for those lucky times when a faction frigate or BC gets popped and I can be the first one to it, possibly scoring some high end rigs or fittings (this has happened a good number of times and speed to the wreck was everything). Ship has no upgraded defenses for the simple fact that if anyone has the right to fire on you in something like this, you're already dead. And better have an up to date medical clone. :)
Another use for a small fast ship like this is long distance travel in Hi-Sec. Say you wanna travel 30 jumps on auto pilot and be there in less than 30 minutes? This should provide the speed you need.
Chapter 9 Coming Soon ~ Hauling Assets!
==================================
My how time flies in New Eden? For those of you following this skill training book, have no fear; the newest chapter is coming soon.
If you have been following along and have all Navigational skills maxed as per Chapter 8 - The Need for Speed, this is gonna be relatively easy. What we will do is equip a ship with a cloaking device, a fast Industrial ship mind you, providing the ability to move more than the limited cargo hold of an Interceptor, and even into and out of low security space.
Suggested skill training for the next chapter are:
Cloaking L4 (or 5)
Transport Ships L5
While we are working on those start to think about which ship you prefer as that will involve an L5 skill as your choice of a racial Industrial. As we become blockade runners, cheers.
===============================================
Chapter 9 : Hauling Assets - Low Security Blockade Runner
===============================================
And finally the next, long awaited and fan anticipated Chapter: Hauling Assets!
If you have been following along with this training series and have all of your Navigational Skills maxed at L5, this is going to be simple.
Keeping true to my race I have selected the Minmatar Prowler.
At times when you simply must go into low security space to haul something, such as when you found a great deal in .04 or perhaps when running a COSMOS mission that was not listed as Low Sec only to find out that it IS, and you HAVE to complete it, here's a cloaky fit to get the job done, and the skills you will need.
THE LOW SEC PROWLER BLOCKADE RUNNER
1) Prowler
2) Rigs; (2) Medium Low Friction Nozzle Joints I
Requires;
Mechanics L3
Jury Rigging L3
Astronautics Rigging L1
3) Lows: (2) Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Requires;
Mechanics L1
Hull Upgrades L2
4) Mids ; (Shields and MWD) 2x Adaptive Invulnerability Field II & Experimental 10MN MicroWarpDrive I
Requires;
Powergrid Management L3
Tactical Shield Manipulation L4
(Our maxed Navigational skills give us access to ANY and all Engines)
5) High Slots: 'Smokescreen' Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Requires;
CPU Management L4
Cloaking L4
Using a ship of this type should not be more than 1-2 days away from this training, as close to instant gratification as you can get, and it is highly suggested that you learn to fly it in High Security first. Learn how and when to cloak from gates and then you should be good to sneak in and out of Low Security space with no problems. Have no fear, New Eden is large and there's not often a gate camp from .5 to .4. But if there is this should leave you fast enough.
No ship, skill nor fitting will ever be better than a pilot's true ability to fly any ship. Yet this should provide you a way to haul assets in and out of low security, fast as hell!
Next Chapter coming in a few weeks and it will be a surprise for us both as I am not certain of exactly what it will be. It might be on High Sec transport ships, or even Freighters. As 2013 draws to a close the final Chapter will be "The Perfect Drake" as promised for the last year and a half.
Until the next Chapter, fly safe and have fun.
Good question. I already had one from a mission so just tossed it on there. As far as targeting someone, yes. I was contemplating adding a salvager to the open high slot just for when the opportunity arises, yet instead I think I'm going to add a 220mm Vulcan Autocannon II instead. So that if I do get caught by perhaps a smaller covert ops ship at a gate or something, might actually stand a chance of popping him (or her) ....
