What's the Point?

Like a gentle echo of last year's acrimony, capsuleers have once again been voicing their dissent at changes brought about by the latest expansion. This time it is the removal of the Vagabond's "frill". Chief amongst those protesting is Rixx Javix of Eveoganda notoriety, but there has also been much chatter in Tweetfleet, on the forums and elsewhere. It seems that finding something to rage about is fast becoming a Summer tradition in New Eden, but this time there's a distinctly more festival feel about things.

That's not to say there isn't a point to be made. It would be a magnificent showing of player solidarity if we could get a bit of a crowd together to tub-thump about the needless circumcision of the Vagabond, but equally to celebrate EVE and its communities, and also to remember that 20% of CCP staff lost their jobs as a result of last Summer's mistakes. Whatever axe you've got to grind, bring it along, I'm sure we can blow something up in its honour.

+1 from me of course.

Let's keep stirring the pot and see if we can't make some soup.

I'm adding info to my blogpost as there are new developments. When there has been significant organisational progress made, I'll update here too.

Rixx, in order to accommodate the outlaw support, how do you feel about a pirate flyby of the Jita Monument to kick off the march? I appreciate many folks aren't really in a position to hang around in Jita, but you could all "buzz the tower" and press your collective arses up against the windscreen of authority.

I'm thinking the "opening ceremony", if it can be done, would be a general congregation awaiting the outlaw flyby, punctuated by the symbolic self-destruction of a Vagabond over the monument. At this point, the urgency of the outlaw fleet's need to keep moving would serve as a great "pace car" to get the march moving.

Thoughts?

I like that idea. It re-creates the JIta Memorial protest, but does so in a different manner befitting the event.

I also created some swag that we can use, or people can pick up and use, to help promote the event:

I'll take out my Sabber for this. We should be prepared, every gate we pass through once we're out of Highhsec is going to be camped.

I guess I'll fit up the old 720 Stabber and head out to join you :) sorry I can't bring a Vagabond, but even if I could afford them, I can't fly them.

One day they woke me up so I could live forever

It's such a shame the same will never happen to you

Perhaps they will be there to support our cause, cheer us on, or even join us on the rest of the march.

Right? ;)

Isn't there the Alliance Tournament X final going on this day? You should try and contact Eve-TV to get this covered between the matches :)

Just group stages this coming weekend. Nothing more than that.

We will be poking for Jita coverage and possibly coverage out in GW, but we shall see.

After looking at the agenda, and rough calculations, as a flashy Concord-Hater I'll need at least 3 Stabber hulls just to make it to the Thukker HQ - that is the best case scenario.
It sounds like great fun is to be had.

Seismic Stan asked me to post my fly-by Stabber fit here, although I would not go as far to call it a "fit".
It is an insult to every Stabber ever built, but for this event it is what I'm going to fly.

Exchange turrets for weapons of choice, however this one is for MAXIMUM RAINBOW EFFECT before and upon detonation.
Autocannons, I still love you, but the Jita cam and average pedestrian will see SUICIDE LAZORS much better.

Shoot rainbow colors and new beautified missile explosions while zipping past the Jita Monument at 8,600m/s!

Believe me when I say, they wont.

We'll be lucky if we see anything to pew until after the visit to Great Wildlands.

The Thukk You, Frill Me: The Vagabond Protest event is today!

As my part of this event, I will be holding a suicide gank raffle at 1800 EVE time (that’s 2pm EST / 1pm Central / noon MST / 11am PST).

Go to Jatate III – Moon 9 and bring your Stabber, Stabber Fleet Issue or Vagabond and be ready to blow up a Vagabond! Winner of the raffle will take home:

1 x Vagabond
2 x Stabber Fleet Issue
1 x Stabber BPO

See you there!

Many, many thanks to all those that participated in the event today! Well done. My apologies that I was unable to go the entire distance with the fleet, RL> Eve. But I am going to go down and shoot the station myself!

Keep the courage.

All in all, a successful event.

Thanks to all who participated, especially Mangala Solaris and the RvB crew for putting the meat on the bones of the idea. Rixx Javix and Roc Weiler provided some great promotional material that was sadly denied airing on the Alliance Tournament feed. Lelouch Degilead (@whistlerbean) did a bang-up job of livetweeting throughout the event too.

By my count, our fleet of approximately 200 pilots comprised 10 Vagabonds, 25 Stabber Fleet Issues, well over 100 Stabbers and an assortment of other ships including a Vexor and Federation Navy Comet presence as some are disappointed by the removal of "smile" and the blue light on respective hulls.

Thanks to everyone who took part, we TiDi'd Jita, the gates shut down at 2,200 pilots in system, we exploded a Vagabond over the Jita monument and we took the fight to Thukker Mix in Great Wildlands (where they promptly exploded me). I understand that the majority of the fleet went on to die in a fire somewhere in null-sec.

I'll do a write-up at some point this week, but Oreamnos Amric has already beaten me to the punch on Notes from New Eden.
