More people should fly Phantasms; I never see them.

Why does no one fly these?

Look at this fit because it looks amazing on paper (with a disruptor instead of scram maybe):

http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/34251-Phantasm-PVP-YOU-WILL-GET-PRIMARIED-52K-EHP-620-DPS.html

Sure it isn't a cynabal, vagabond, or zealot, but what's so bad about it that no one flies it? It's also dirt cheap as far as faction cruisers go.

TY for replies in advance (never flown one myself, just curious because I really wish it was good)

Update:
This ship needs buffing in at least one or two of these areas, if not all:

More capacitor
More fitting
More speed
More tank

Some of them overlap, such as the lack of fitting makes fitting a huge tank difficult but even with a huge tank you've got capacitor issues. In order to fix the capacitor issues with a cap booster, you've really got to gimp the tank. On top of these, for how squishy it is it's far too slow for a shield ship, it feels more like it's armor tanked from how slow it is.

Would buffing all of these areas make it overpowered, would they be enough to fix it, are they realistic to expect or will any changes be held off until the large cruiser/bc balance patch at the end of the year?

Could it be because the Zealot can do the same thing, but for cheaper and for less skill training?

I had one before I took a break over a year ago, I dearly wanted to love it, much like most of the Gallente ships I like, but every time I tried it against friends it could not outdo them.

Sold it in the end.

That battleclinic fit dies to the first frig to get close enough. HPL tracking is baaad, even with tracking bonus. It has no neut, only 3 drones, no web. The cap is dreadful, you can't even run a single HPL under neuts with that small nos, much less three, invul and tackle.
Sure, dps is good, but for a faction ship it's pretty bad overall. Its not fast enough to catch smaller stuff, dies to tacklers, dies to pretty much everything it can catch (BCs).

Taking care of those flaws pretty much makes it very unremarkable. Fitting a web + cap mods (either 2 medium nos or cap booster) needs sacrifices in tank/gank and makes both really mediocre.

I use one similar fitted for PVP every now and then. Best looking ship ingame imo.

It's too slow to do what you want it too. Get a zealot.

I fly one sometimes. It is a good looking ship. I swapped to FMP and put cap booster for emergencies. You lose DPS but better tracking. Takes a long time to lock frigs. At work can't post fit!

I had one for a while, fun, but meh... I kinda fell in love with the Ashimmu while grinding L1's for Minnie on my main. Awesome little boat.

Phantasm is actually a lot cheaper than a Zealot (like half the cost?)

I used it for mining once.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

I want to like the phantasm, I want to like it very much...but it does not hold up to most other cruiser hulls...in the same price range

I just used mine for the first time (its been sitting in the hangar for a long time)...

I am thoroughly unimpressed.... shield regen sucks, you can't passive shield tank it
Its cap sucks... it seems you can't active tank it (although I haven't tried an ancillary booster)
Its buffer isn't that great...
Its applied DPS isn't all that great, particularly with only 3 lows....

I would start by doing the following:
+5% shield hp
-5% shield recharge time
+5% capacitor capacity
-5% capacitor recharge time
+5% speed and agility.
+1 low slot
+10 to drone bay size and bandwidth (ie 5 light drones)

Based on how long it's been a (extremely pretty!) "useless" ship, I'd say we've got to wait until the cruiser rebalance to see any changes to the Phantasm.

On the flip side, based on a previous dev blog - http://cdn1.eveonline.com/www/newssystem/media/8742/1/Shiptech_1920.jpg as seen in http://community.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&nbid=9129 - we can hope that the phantasm will receive enough of a boost to become one of the most feared cruisers out there, alongside the ashimmu, cynabal, gila and vigilant.

Well I can dream, can't I?
