What ship are you flying?

What is the fitting you are using?

Many things increase your DPS. Mostly your gunnery support skills. Look at the "Turret Control" certificate. Also use faction crystals if you can afford them.

Read all the gunnery skills. What they do, and comprehend what that means for your gun. The skills are more important than the gun itself.
Also look at the ship info you are flying. Some ships give damage bonus per level of ship skill.
Modules.
Rigs
Implants.

Rigs - Burst aerator
Mods- Heat Sink
All else is skill.
Fittings can be tricky too. Get Advanced Weapon Upgrades to 5.
Put your fit in eft check dps, then set all to 5 and check dps. Go back to your character, right click on the lazor, you will see secondary skills and change to see the difference. You also may have tracking issues against frigs . Do you have good drone skills if your ship has drones.

In my experience DPS rigs are a waste of a slot. Just saying like :) Sinks are win - faction sinks are bigger win.

As an aside my Rig skills are all 3 so maybe its me.... :))

I have tin foil hat trained to 5.

Really depends on what else you want to put there. Do you value survival over damage output? Then sure, extender/trimarks are the obvious choice. Are you running missions and need a sustainable tank? CCCs are the best choice. But if you're just going for alpha in a gate camp, or your tank is taken care of by logistics, or you have dedicated ECM or whatever, why not use DPS rigs?

I was in a similar position about 3 months ago, having only started playing 5 months ago and just moved to my corp in null. I was doing similar dps to you. I loved anoms and could tank the higher level ones no problem with only average tank skills. So maximising my dps was the key to increasing isk from anoms.

I've found that whilst skills obviously play a massive part in dps, choosing ships and mods also really heap on the dps as a new player.

I started with a harby doing 300 dps, moved to a navy apoc and got that to 650dps, then about 2 weeks ago I got a nightmare which is pimped out with ded gear from my anom bounties, doing 1k dps.

Clearly having only played for a few months my skills are still totally noobish. But this is just how I got my dps (and isk per hour) to go up. Now im earning 60mil isk an hour from anoms.

Also I should mention that using skills to increase your optimal/falloff/tracking etc allow you to apply more effective dps and free up slots that you would usually have to use increasing optimal/falloff/tracking.

just my two cents, and my first postP

one other thing I forgot - you can boost your dps by 6-10% in no time with a fairly inexpensive set of implants.
