there are quite a few skills that I've run into where people tell me "don't bother to train that past 1 or 2". the main one I can think of is the strategic cruiser skills. just about everyone I know doesn't have it trained past 2 or 3. quite a few of them have it trained to just one.
please give some more incentive on these types of skills to actually warrant training these to top level.

There already is an incentive to train strat cruisers. It's called over-heating.

that's what I mean. aside from solo or small gang PVP, you almost never overheat.
also, strat cruisers aren't the only skills, it's just that that's the one I can think of off the top of my head.

Fit less tank, more gank, then you will use overheat. You don't have to be cap stable to run missions.

Apart from that, just because you can't find a reason to train the skill doesn't mean there is no reason to train it for everyone.

don't listen to the masses all the time?

Train whatever skill to the level you want, its your char. Strat cruiser 4-5 used by those who cook mods. Useless in pve (imo) but a pvpv'er might want to hold a bbq on his ship. Mixed with thermodynamics 4/5 you get some nice run times cooked. Afterburner 5 another unloved skill. PVE'er...it can lay the ground work for a cap stable or close to it setup. Longer burns less ab spanking. PVP'er will may not wnat his. Or a pvp'er may say screw it, my pvp builds are 95% mwd powered anyway and go for the cap savings on the isk making ship that runs ab.

And part of eve is planning. Don't need the 5 for your plans don't train it. Its okay to not be ocd. Many weapons spec 5's I will not have any time soon if at all.. I can make the isk/lp much faster to implant it to fake the effect as I have mnay more importnat things to learn atm. But thats me with my plans....if I was preppring for AT's. well then yeah I would 5 em as I know the bitter vet teams are rolling 5's with implants and combat boosters.
