SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS PLANET'S DECISION TO EXPEL SDII TASK GROUP

Vivanier - The Gallente Federation Supreme Court has upheld the decision by the Vivanier authorities to immediately remove a local task group of soldiers belonging to the Federal Intelligence Office's Special Department of Internal Investigations and Federal Security, commonly called the Black Eagles. This follows a month-long planetary sweep of Vivanier III, the capital planet of the system, by Black Eagle troops, citing a collective paramilitary threat emerging on the world.

Larold Vavod, President of the Supreme Council of Vivanier, stated that the presence of FIO troops on their planet was an "intolerable breach of our fundamental Charter rights", and that the local authorities will "use their legal authority to remove these inquisitors at the first available opportunity". The Federal Intelligence Office protested and, though no word was given from Federal President Roden or the rest of the administration, threatened that Vivanier would suffer penalties for defying executive order, likely in the form of economic sanction.

However, Vivanier's registered government were quick to take the matter to the Supreme Court, where it was debated between Federal justices for the past month. On the executive's side, it was believed that a growing secessionist movement on the world would threaten the safety and security of the wider system, particularly in the face of increasing Caldari military operations in the area. President Vavod simply stated that it was an excuse for the Federation to leverage influence in the historically isolated pocket of space, which is completely surrounded by territories labelled as low-security by CONCORD.

The decision was welcomed by certain Senators and activists, who find the existence of the Black Eagles an aberration to the Federation. The Federal Intelligence Office released a statement saying it was "disappointed" by the Supreme Court's decision, and hopes "that no dire consequences" will come from it. Local security services have ensured that no such threat to Vivanier's stability that the FIO has hearkened about will be permitted to fester on the planet.

I would question the wisdom behind publicly declaring the withdrawal of internal security forces and operations from a planet on the border of an active war zone.

I'm not sure I believe the Federation will reduce their presence, in this case FIO troops, from the Vivanier system despite what's being reported here.

Of course they have to be seen to be respecting the wishes of local government but if local secessionist groups are becoming more vocal my own experiences call me to seriously doubt the honesty of any FIO statements regarding their withdrawal.

In the Intaki system where the Federal Navy was famously denied access, it is clear that the Federation simply ignores the wishes of local government and continues to act as it pleases.

Federal Navy vessels operate almost daily in the Intaki system despite the Assembly's wishes and so I'd suggest to our friends in Vivanier to make efforts to ensure this breach of trust is not repeated so openly in their system.

Today I learned it takes the direct intervention of the Federation Supreme Court to force one friendly intelligence detachment to pencil in a new name and re-launder their docs before continuing with business as usual after a security breach.

I am sure that when the Caldari invade and take the system these idiots will wish that they had kept those Black Eagles as opposed to trading them in for Templis Dragonaurs who are so famous for seeing what secrets they can pry from people with a cattle prod to the downstairs region. Congrats dumbasses.

Vivanier is not a part of the current warzone, so there would be quite significant consequences for the State if they were to take such a bold step.

The issue being discussed is the existence of possible secessionist elements, not invasion concerns. The primary matter here is the proper orientation of power. The duly elected local government should address what is, at this point, a local problem. If they initiate a request for assistance from the FIO, that is one thing. Barring this, the Federal Administration would have to demonstrate a justifiable level of concern for overstepping this typical method of operation. They were apparently not able to do so before an open court, in whom the people trust to sort out these matters.

You seem to have an odd inconsistency in your level of concern for over-reach of power, perhaps you should look into that.

Looks like something shaped and designed for public consumption to me. I'm hoping the Black Eagles did this overt operation as a distractionary move as something much more covert could take place.

Quite.

That Federation citizens are expected to believe the FIO will respect local authority requests despite the support of the courts is laughable, especially when it comes to the Placid Region.

Both Hoshisuuvi and Liberta before me are correct that a very public removal of FIO troops is obviously intended to mask a continued presence of Black Eagles secret police.

The evidence suggests that with the denial of voting rights, Federation propaganda lying to its citizens regarding the nature of the Megacorporations' activities in some parts of the region (see development vs dominion) and constant reminders of the threat of oppression under the State's jackboot, the reality is that the Federation is not the shining beacon of democracy it claims to be.

The veil slips a little more as time passes and now FIO troops in Vivanier show us that that oppressive jackboot sports a stylish Gallente heel.

Oh, we forgot about you, Supreme Court. Forgot you had a set of Federal values to defend, did we?

Anyway, it's trivial. Whatever the Federation does is inconsequential to the lives of its citizens. These so-called "public operations" are just smoke-and-mirrors for other activities, considering the SDII is a paramilitary force and not a police agency.

The Federation knows it can do whatever it wants behind-the-scenes, because ultimately, the daily life of a Gallentean is unaffected for the most part. Whether that's a good or bad thing, I haven't decided.

The activities a governing body engage in are inconsequential and trivial?

The Federation purports to derive its legitimacy from the consent of the people within it. How such consent can be given when the administration operates without transparency through shadowy operations seems dubious. Strange how these sorts of cloak-and-dagger operations and breaches of social contract are constantly said to be taking place in the State and criticized heavily by the same groups who give a dismissive wave of the hand if the same is true in the Federation. In some cases, many politicians love to jump up on their soap-box and fear-monger about the State while simultaneously implementing such policies in their own home districts.

I spend a reasonable amount of time in Vivanier. The system and neighbouring Algasienan are minor hubs for Republic Security Services, who conduct Intelligence-gathering operations in the region.

I've always found the presence of Republic agents in Placid to be an interesting thing. Perhaps that has a bearing on this announcement?
