That's what I wanted to say, just now.

I was, in fact, turning the comment around... I should have elaborated on that.

My meaning was: Why is it important to be vocal about ones gender?

I've been a gamer for years (longer then most of my, mostly male, freinds) and a roleplayer for even longer then that... and a real geek at heart. I can play a man character just as convincing as a female one. In the end, all that's important is that you enjoy the things you do... and don't spoil the fun of those you are playing with... no matter the gender.

Teamspeak, maybe?

Anyway there are _some_ females that play EVE but not many. Good luck with your quest.

I believe 5.8% of Eve players are female.

Saw it on one of the Eve information sites. Cannot remember which one.

I know a couple of women that play EVE.

However I do not share that knowledge since alot of MMO players go apeshyte when they discover there is a chick playing a game they Like.

Sorry for the misunderstanding and thanks for clarifying. I do see your point and agree with most of it. (I think I added a bit since you posted). But while it's fine with me to be one of the guys, per se, I've had to work really hard at it, at times. It is somewhat easier in that I'm older and don't do the damsel in distress routine. Or it makes it harder -- one CEO I know was not pleased I wasn't swooning over him me thinks. (Shoutout to Red Galaxy BTW for having no --or remedying attempted -- gender issues)

Hell, I have a Steam portfolio that rivals a lot of guys and probably has me on a government watch list.

Most my friends are male and I usually don't care about the imbalance in Eve but some of the comments and links are frankly myopic, sexist, bigoted or misogynistic.

I have enjoyed many good fleets/times with some great *people* in Eve, but some of the stuff that goes on does get old. That people get defensive and make generalizations over a woman's POV doesn't help matters. It's like a white-collar Caucasian male or female protesting against "The Black (Jewish, Muslim or other) Experience." As if we really have a clue.

Maybe it's a matter of perspective... I usually don't wanna be "one of the guys" 'cause I don't really enjoy things like fleet warfare or large scale battles... I'm a "carebear". Blink

But I understand what you mean.

OK yeah. That explains A LOT. The PvP world is much different and most the Indy folks I know in Alliance stayed off of comms for their own sanity.

How does her/his gender influence in any way shape or form how you play with them or what they do in eve online?

Are we not reflections of our characters when in game? Does having a ***** make me better at mining or pvp? Does having a vagina?

What is the reasoning for gender on the internet, and specifically gender inside of a video game where it simply does not matter?

When I ask these questions, the only way you can possibly come to a logical conclusion, is the innate desire for attention that a female has - I'm not faulting her on this - I'm simply confused why, when met with such hostility when bringing it up every time, women like this continue to use video games as an outlet beyond having fun. What's the point of getting attention from other people playing video games based entirely on the fact of your gender?

I think you and people like you are why topics like this exist. Female gamers can sometimes be subjected to harsh treatment just for being female. Don't believe me? You have never paid attention to yourself. Grow up.

To the OP: MintChip seems really cool and she talks about her WGoE channel every now and then. I would suggest checking it out. If I were a girl I'd definitely do so.

With pictures of boobies, obviously.

By the way, since we're already talking, do you want to buy a rifter? I've got the cheapest rifters in Metropolis. If you can find a cheaper rifter, buy it!

Actually, I was rreacently introduced to the concept of showing such pictures to FC members to keep them focused... no comment on that... but hey, maybe it works?

Yeah I know right, my wife can't take me anywhere. Which is fine, I'd rather be playing this terrible game.

I got my girlfriend/SO to play for a while. Since we both spent a lot of time playing video games, I thought it'd be great to have one where we could play together (The only alternative was me joining WoW, and I mean - it's WoW). First couple of weeks was cool; I showed her around, then she began following along and salvaging my sleeper wrecks in her Coromorant.

After a while she left the wormhole and started mining. "Just a phase, it'll pass" I thought. But no, all she did every time she played was sit in front of an asteroid field and watch those goddamn mining lasers. Weeks passed and she was still doing the same inane stuff, and it just bummed me out.

It wasn't exactly a secret where she'd mine with her Hulk, given the fact that she sat right next to me. After a lengthy IRL fight I ended up suicide ganking her.

We're not together anymore.

That's why I don't date gamers... or musicians Blink Just kidding...

Kind of a sad story, though...and alittle funny.

Why is that?

Yeah, I would love some pizza.

My daughters bought and set up my original account for me, (as a surprise birthday present) they got the female name from a history book I was reading at the time.

Then I found out that Eve names are permanent.

Do I care?

No.

Why would anyone care?

Who said the game was terrible?

The comics section is --------->

You already know where the boobie pics are.

I have to admit though, as far as deflecting the thread, the guy (some posts up) who ganked his (real or imaginary) girlfriend gets a 7/10, since I nearly snorkled my morning coffee reading about it.
