The Punishment for Blasphemy

On this YC114.06.22, I am prepared to render judgment against a group of Khanid citizens and Caldari nationals who have committed the egregious sins of blasphemy, insult to the body of the Empire, and promiscuity within the Kingdom of Khanid.

The allegations are as follows: Diskos Udani did willfully and with full knowledge of his crime, procure a blasphemous item of Galletean make and bring it into the holy Kingdom of Khanid. This item was a holoreel that showed an individual of indeterminate gender as the ‘Empress’ who performed crude and unnatural sexual acts with her ‘Private Council.’ Diskos Udani rented out this holoreel along with others of a pornographic nature to several individuals.

For this crime, Diskos Udani is sentenced to public execution at dawn tomorrow. During that time, all existing copies of the holoreel will be burned.

Fifteen individuals herein named[1], purchased and willfully watched the blasphemous item. Six of these individuals were of the Kingdom and nine were Caldari workers for the Kaalakiota. All members of the Kingdom are assumed to have known the enormity of their sin. Under questioning and before the agents of the Divine, all nine Caldari have sworn they sinned in ignorance.

Ignorance of divine law does not exempt one from punishment.

All fifteen are immediately stripped as their rights as citizens and honored foreigners and must take the collar. They are being removed to a desert planet and there the fifteen will be daily lashed, exposed to the elements, and kept on a restricted diet for three months.

As the crime was committed in in Hanaya territory and the prisoners know many of the servants of the Hanaya, instead of falling under the care of Lord Hanaya, they will be presented to Evelyn Meiyi as slaves. Lady Meiyi will provide them with spiritual education and rehabilitation.

Lady Meiyi may return the Caldari slaves to the Kaalakiota if she believes they have properly repented of their crimes.

At this time, Lord Hanaya is still investigating this matter and if other sinners are found, they will likewise be punished.

Praise be to the justice of King Khanid II and God, and to Jamyl I.

[Addendum: 07:26 YC114.06.24]

Diskos Udani was given his last rites and hung by the neck until death at 12:15 EVE Standard Time. We offer prayers for his soul and for those of his family.

The other prisoners have been taken to an undisclosed planet where they were undergo their penance.

My question is, seeing as you plan on either killing or enslaving these people...who do I return the copy I rented to, or barring that, will my credit account be charged late fee's?

All joking aside, blasphemy is not something that the Empire or Kingdom can afford to ignore.

The slaves in my care will be treated fairly, with all due sensitivity to the current political situation between the Kingdom and her allies. When I am certain that they understand the gravity of their crime, they will be released into the care of the State, or their home corporation, whichever sees fit to recover them.

I have long maintained that I am not a cruel person. I do not abuse slaves, physically or otherwise, nor do I use such disturbing methods as Vitoxin to ensure loyalty. Such things are not Godly, and will only serve to drive the slaves under my care away from His light.

The Caldari have long been our allies and close friends; I will do nothing to upset our relationship, but I must protect the Kingdom against the efforts of dissidents and heretics.

This reminds of a similar holoreel incident in orbit of Athra a few years past.

Scandalous.

I'll just say that those who preach the loudest against what they consider moral impropriety are generally the ones caught indulging at some later date.

I'm sure sister Hanaya has a few well-viewed copies bouncing around in her computer files somewhere....

Additionally the fact that this may be a 'crime' on Hanaya territory does not speak for the Kingdom and Empire at large.

If you truly wish to preserve the relationship, I would suggest perhaps returning the Caldari citizens to their parent corporation after giving thorough explanation of the error they have made. We prefer to take care of our own.

As much as I'd like to see that video personally in the quiet of my office with no-one around, those Caldari individuals are responsible for their own behaviour, and their crimes. They got caught watching blasphemous material in the Empire. You wouldn't want to get caught poaching for slaves in Pator either. Cultural insensitivity is no excuse for repatriation or rescue, they ran afoul of a local custom and should face the Amarrian consequences with Caldari honour.

Certainly so, but it may strain relations. The best way to ensure a strong relationship is through trust, and I am of the opinion that trusting Kaalakiota to administer appropriate justice for the crimes would be the greatest sign of that trust.

CCP, there are off buttons for ship explosions, missile effects, turret effects, etc. "Immersion" does not seem to be harmed by those. So, please give us a persisting off button for the jump gate and autoscan visuals.

Doesn't it seem a little extreme to be condemning and executing people for some very human self indulgence? Either in thought or action. Loosen up brother.

Of course. And there is nothing similar in your response than in that of the original post. The two reactions share nothing in common.

By the way, Concord allows a lot of twisted folks to shoot guns. Some of whom operate on purely sadistic motivations without even a shred of lust behind a thirst to inflict pain. Is human sexual desire more dangerous to the divine than purely destructive impulses?

I have no opinion on the divine, as I tend to deal in things I can demonstrate with evidence.

I have lots of opinions on the sorts of people that get turned into capsuleers.

True enough. And opinions, being human, can differ wildly.

Which is great, because it lets me hold you up as an example to people when they say "Why exactly do you fly for Nation? Don't you want your free will?"

Nope, not really. If I ever had it, its too much of a danger. Quite happy to sell it for a Utopia.
