I'll unsub all my accounts if I can't shitpoast on a forum section named General Trolling.

This part of the forums is specifically meant for people to have a place where we can insult each others stupidest ideas, and spice the insults with ad hominems, off-topic tinfoilery and metagame persuasion propaganda.

There are plenty of other, categorized sections where we can post factual posts and have real discussions about the game- General Trolling is not the place for such posts.

Dang. Someone obviously forgot to fill me in on the purpose of this forum section! Sad

But it's not complicated anyway. Just use common sense and don't intentionally or maliciously make up stuff about others and you'll be fine. There is life after slander, kids!

Some of us have determined that common sense is not so common as has been shown in the some 30 pages of the define rookie thread.

That thread's problem is analogous to an unwillingness to define "post" or "forum." Not an issue with figuring out what "trolling" means.

it was pure conjecture... actually CCP guard was trying to conform to the social norms of Japenese cleints of eve online where its a social norm for one who has lost honour or direction to "take" ones life in an honourable fashion... it would be bigotry if he did not suggest it as a form of regaining his lost honour...

Define Trolling.

Just like with "messing with" in the other thread. "Trolling" works well as a vaguely defined term.

My favourite pizza is the quaddro formagio, with spinach and an egg in the middle.
It's the best pizza i've ever had and if you wanna try it out, you have to remember one *REALLY* important part ! ->

It *needs* to be juicy !

Exactly. CCP may have a currently riding definition of trolling on the rules page but how often are we accused of being a troll simply for disagreeing with somebody. Where is line drawn when defining troll.

I don't care. The penalty for trolling is a locked thread.

You're trying to use a bad analogy to shoehorn this into a different argument.

The analogy that's sensible:
Forums(location): Do not "troll(action)" "threads(class)".
Newbie systems(location): Do not "mess with(action)" "newbies(class)"

Trolling is to Mess with as Threads is to Nebies.

Trolling is Vaguely defined, Mess with is vaguely defined. These are both fine.

Threads is precisely defined and obvious to everyone, Newbies is not. That is the problem area.

You're trying to equate an action with a class.

To use a bad analogy I would say something like Trolling is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get. In fact the line that you quoted doesn't even have a comparison so I'm not even sure why you are calling it a bad analogy. All I'm saying is that over the years the term troll has gotten so grey even senior citizens give it a discount. And why are we defining what a thread is?

Personally I think CCP is just getting ahead of the proposed UK law on 'Internet Trolls'

Their servers are in UK after all!

BBC Technology - Q&A: Who are internet trolls - and how is the law changing?

I expect, as usual, with our Governments 'Wonderful' understanding of high technology and the internet. Roll

The changes in the law will be a 'dogs dinner' that will hand far to much power to companies with rich lawyers rather than help individuals.

Overall it will more likely allow companies to chase down people who might write statements like 'The IPad is rubbish as it doesn't work under water'.
Rather than allowing individuals to able to stop some evil troll that has really muddied their good name with accusations of say 'Kiddie Fiddling'! Sad

Oh! And the defence that this forum is a 'Game' Forum and its all a 'Game' wont count!

As 'Online Video Games' will be covered.

'Online Video Games' So retro, it gives you so much confidence in our legislators Roll

So what your saying is I can make stuff up as long as it's not malicious....

Well....

I heard a rumor that CCP Guard is not only a great listener, but a nice person, with a firm grip on common sense responses to forum issues that are being over thought and over dramatized.
