What about the Razor, Switchblade. The demo modal was able to run WoW and DOOM3. It is a dedicated gaming laptop and a mouse can be hooked up.

Sorry I can't link it, working off a phone here. Maybe someone else could oblige.

And thus the annual "the desktop PC is dying" prediction trends continue.

Cyno's lit, bridge is up, but one pilot won't be jumping home.

Forget about tablets... I would rather see ccp´s webteam got up from their arses and start working.. i still remember few years back when they showed on fanfest video about their vision on eve gate... Ability to do anything that dosent require target lock and shoot it...

So i would seriously like to see followinf abilitites to added on Eve gate:

  • Ability to manage your skillque (Add, Remove, Etc...)
  • Ability to manage your market orders and browse market in station your in
  • Ability to chat ingame corp and alliance channels and im not talking about failvoice here...
  • Ability to access corporate management interface
  • The all famous dispand option that was shown in fanfest video

Personally i feel webdev team has lost vision of what theyr suposed to do... Eve gate was suposed to be your gateway to ingame activites that dosent require spaceflight.. Currently its just thing that makes eve forums work even slower after you log in...

" the future is here" ....Or at least a step closer

Interesting article about the new Ipad vs games consoles. Worth noting that the iPad, using air share, can display on what ever tv/monitor you have it connected to..... Eve on 42inch anyone?

Granted eve is not on a ps3 or Xbox either but Dust on a tablet, possible? (pity about the ps3/Sony only)

Seeing as how people have been doing that for many many years no, it's not all that noteworthy.

I've been playing EVE on 2560x1600 for close to 5 years, with the screen around a meter away from me. I doubt 42" would be impressive at all.

Also, the idea of playing a competitive FPS using a tablet? "heh, that'll end badly" comes to mind.

Whenever people speculate what can be done on a tablet or touch screen, I am mildly amused...

Imagine, you can physically hammer down on a target while screaming "die, die, die"! It is strangely satisfying Lol

I lol'd at this a lot :D:D:D:D

Now back to the point.

- yes, iPad 2 or Tegra 2/3 based tablet have enough oooomph to handle pre-Trinity EVE client. Proof? look up Galaxy on Fire 2 HD/THD. Making a tablet client would unfortunately require a full port, which means a lot of coding.
- yes it would be great to have an EVE Online themed game on tablet computers
- no, I don't think it should be a port of EVE. It could be a different game in the same universe.
- and I don't think it should be a port of DUST 514 either. FPS games on tablets have... well... different controls.
- CCP could contract the tablet EVE game to an external company, so almost no resources in CCP are necessary (besides money)
- CCP already has a lot of graphic/sound assets that could be used for making a tablet game

Tablet PC's are getting more powerfull every year. They also get more and more popular all the time, since people notice very fast that mouse and keyboard are actually not necessary tools. Voice communication is faster than typingin, and touch screen is better than using mouse.

Tablets are the future of gaming, and desktop PC's are dying species. Even laptops will suffer alot.

Right now tablets can do basically everything. You can do office work with them, you could basically do programming with them, you can use web applications via browser. You can talk with your friends with phone, or skype etc. You can use 3g, WIFI. We are closing at the point where the scifi PDA thingy is real.

Playing EVE with tablet is possible. Of course it would only run one client, atleast as first. But the touch screen is actually better than using mouse. Even I adapted touch screen use very fast, under two days.

Double click is replaced by double tap (IIRC), wiping screen would move your vision. Wipe horizontally, move vision horizontally, wipe vertically, move vision vertically. Zooming is also possible.

Largets problem is the GUI. However new unified inventory system is one huge leap towards tablet client for EVE.

I really do believe that it would be possible, and I do hope that it will be reality in someday.

CCP, are there any plans to make EVE compatible with tablets?

No. Tablets do not have the computing power that EVE requires. The ones who say otherwise aren't considering what a 500 vs 500 man engagement does to a desktop. And by the time they do, desktops will be that much more powerful, and EVE that much more capable on a desktop than on a tablet. Tablets also vary quite a bit in size, power, features, quality, etc. Unless it was for iPad only, then CCP is going to have the same exact problems Android game developers are having now, with the variety of devices. Some devices can handle their games, some cannot, some can run them with one simple modification to the game, etc. Not to mention I for one do not want to be limited to nothing but a touch screen to control my EVE.

Personally, when I picked up my iPad 2, I stopped using my laptop completely. I was unsubbed from Eve at the time, and didn't miss keyboard/mouse/etc at all.

Now I'm playing again, and it's the only reason I use the laptop at all. Everything else I do works perfectly on a lightweight little screen I can hold all day long with 10 hours of battery life.

I do sometimes use VNC or the like (LogMeIn as well) to do things like swap skills, update market orders or AP around Empire, but it's far from ideal.

Most of the things keeping Eve from being tablet-able are the horribleUI choices that CCP made early on, and have been trying to move away from. I don't think they'll get there within 5 years minimum, if ever.

Im a writer and I got me one of them pad dillys when grandma got it off the home shopping network. I thought it was a good idear at the time and thought it would be better then the clunckly lap top I have. To tell a long story short, I started writing with the screen keyboard and I really didn't like it. You type slow because its one handed and most of the apps that I used didn't have very good word processors. But, I went out and bought me a wireless keyboard with the wefe or blue teeth, what ever they call it... and I enjoy it much more. While grandma is sittin and stichen her pattern I can type away on my horror novel.

Are you a tablet salesman trying to unload your stock?
ccp can't even get this right....they are killing the game with the new ui so the end is near for eve....so the answer is "NO"
