Skill Advice for Gallente Run and Gun (Medium Specialization / Starting Battleship Training)

Hello all!

I am just wondering for some advice from some experienced pilots out there. I am sort of at a point where I can make some decisions on skills in the long run, and I wanted to get some advice. I currently am using a Thorax and loving cloe blaster combat, as I find it exciting. Currently, I am trying to decide on if I should begin some heavier training in medium blasters (For tier 2), training for a heavy assault or battlecruiser, or if I should try to begin training for a Battleship. I currently am doing mission running, but want to be flexible and, like I said, love the quick run and gun pilot feel.

So...advice? Continue in medium specialization on my current Thorax, skill for a different medium class, or start training for a battleship?

Thanks!

Well, your gallente HACs are the demios and the ishtar. The ishtar is a drone ship that is pretty versatile, but I don't know much about the demios. The only other blaster HAC is the eagle.

The myrm is the gallente L3 ship of choice but you could run a blaster brutix if you know what you are doing. After that for gallente is the dominix, and it's primarily a drone boat. I don't know enough about the megathron in L4s.

If you want to step out of gallente ships, you could go with an autocannon hurricane for some run and gun.

Get yourself in to BCs. They are still probably the best ship class in the game for the widest variety of roles. How to follow that up is up to you, but you have three basic options:

1) Train heavily into gunnery. Get your T2 blasters and rails -- you'll want both. Get your supposrt skills up. It takes awhile but is well worth it in the end. Eventually this will lead into a Talos/Megathron/Hyperion. This option also leaves you in a good place for cross training.

2) Train heavily into drones. You'll want T2 lights soon anyhow, but I mean heavily: supports, T2 heavies, T2 sentries. This will make for a good Myrmidon followed by a Dominix and Ishtar. Drones just got a huge boost with the introduction of damage mods, so this is an interesting option.

3) Cross-train. You seem to like Gallente ships, but have you tried anything else? Get some other ships and guns going. You might find something else even better.

All are valid options (and eventually you might choose them all!) but I'd pick one to start with and really explore it heavily.

As much as I loved my blaster Brutix, it's outclassed in every possible way by my Autocannon Hurricane.

I started the Minmatar path because my racial stealth bomber is crap, and I wanted a Hound, but soon after that (and having BC V, and great Gunnery skills trained) I realized how close I was from a good Hurricane build...and it was line an epiphany.

I can't but recommend you to crosstrain to Minmatar. It will open the Angel Cartel and Serpentis ship lines, and Projectiles are superior to Hybrids in most practical situations: no cap, selectable damage types, etc.

Absolutely love all the advice guys, thanks so much for all of the replies!

I am going for a gallente Battlecruiser, with the plans to continue to Battleships in the far future. My only question I have is this: because of my secondary skills, I can be in a Talos in about half a day more than a Brutix, and it sounds like a really, really fun ship, so I am thinking of going for it. Opinions on that? I know my Large Hybrid turret skill will be low for a bit, but the majority of my gunnery skills are in secondary ones that would benefit them anyways (As in, Rapid Firing and such as opposed to Medium Hybrid Turret)

Don't do it. Large guns just don't perform as well as mediums at the tasks you'll be focusing on in the near future. The theoretical damage increase is nice, but when firing against medium or smaller it really is purely theoretical. Combine that with the fact that the Talos has a much weaker tank than either the Brutix or the Myrmidon and you're just looking for trouble. Remember, your real risk in missions comes from small ships anyhow (the ones that prevent you from warping). If you don't have a tank to take those out with your big, ponderous weapons that have trouble with frigs you're going to pop and end up in a Brutix anyhow to pick up your wreck.

Awesome, that is what I needed to know. Thanks again everyone!
