I've been debating over whether or not to train this toon in strictly Minmatar ships, or if I should also specialize in Gallente as well. On my previous toon, I could fly every tech 1 subcap ship save the Minmatar BS (Don't know why I never trained that), but did not fly much more than Caldari for PvE and Minmatar/Gallente for PvP. I like having choices, but training for two racial ships may or may not be a good idea. i thought I would ask and get the opinions of other players. For reference, I am training to be strictly PvP.

I've cross trained my pilots. I get bored with doing the same thing so it's nice to have choices.

I would try to get almost perfect skill with whatever Minmatar ship you want to PVP in before training another race.

Just wondering you already have a Minmatar pilot but you want to train another? How about Amarr?

I would just want to point out that 1 well skilled ship is better than 2 half skilled ships. (Previous Poster made this point too)

With that in mind,
Train your favorite ship /workhorse so you sit in it with nice skills backing you. (Cane, Tempest, whatever) Then branch out to ships that interest you.

Gunnery supports cross over.
BC skill crosses over.
Drones.
Tank.
Nav.
Etc.

More is better imo. Don't stop at 2 races if you see a ship you want to be good in.

I started off Gallente, rushed to battleships and maxed out drones, then trained Minmitar BS because I wanted something to pimp out. Got my 2.5+bil Machariel and had a lot of fun, but then realised that big != better in EVE and looked back at the smaller ships I had completely looked over. I got a Proteus a little while back and just recently trained Amarr to get into a Legion. I have heaps more options now and a lot more fun. The only race I don't fly is Caldari as missiles aren't my thing.

I'm of the same mind...it's good to be great at one thing than good at two things. I'm not planning at this moment to go beyond battlecruisers right now. Truthfully, BCs aren't even a concern at this time. I was really interested in what others thought about it though.

My original toon, as mentioned before, could fly all racial t1 ships, and use up to all medium weapons systems at least. I don't think I trained him in large lasers though. It was great to be able to fly all those ships, but to be honest, I didn't feel like I had any of them truly locked down.

I'll proably train both Minny and Gallente up to cruiser V at least, and once I have all support and weapon skills to V, go back and do BC V, and some t2 ships as well. I'm just trying to keep everything nice and clean. Big smile

Jack of all trades, master of none, though ofttimes better than master of one.

But in this case, it's better to be highly skilled at one thing before moving on the next. Be a Minmatar pilot first, then brach out. I was ~30-40 million skill points into my character before I really branched out and went to other races.
