Man on mars in 2023

Got news for you, it is going to happen. You cannot expect the world population to continue to exponentially increase and maintain resources on a decidedly finite planet. If nothing else, there are resources that can be mined and money to be made if someone wants to foot the bill for the initial investment. And someone will.

Nevermind the fact that exploration is in our nature and space truly is the final frontier.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

Agreed, but it's still too soon. Earths recources are far from being depleted. Actually, climate change will make even more accessable (no permafrost in russia/canada*, ice free arctic ocean, less ice in Greenland/Antarctic). Rising ocean level? "Just" flood the deserts.

There is actually not much you want to import from space, atm. Anyway, it's pretty stupid to send people in the radioactive hell that is space if you can use automated systems (which need to be developed yet) and get rid of all the life support. You can easily abandon them when recources are depleted, too.

I think it will take at least 100 years (but don't cite me) before there will be a significant space industry and even more time before people actually want to colonize space. (Ofc there will be research outpost earlier.)

Just my two cent.

As soon as we can manage to get a manned mission passed our own moon, then space can be a frontier. We still haven't mapped about 90% of the ocean yet and so far we've learned that life can evolve independently of the sun

if a rich guy WANTS to do something then he CAN. This is whats happening. NASA was never going to be the ones to bring us to mars.

What kind of lawsuits can someone expect from family of the people you killed by crashing them into mars?

That would not have happened if those people exercised their 2nd space amendment rights to keep and bear ASAT's.

If we want it to happen, it will happen.

It's about imagination.

Lol I can see this happening but other than the launch/landing it would be a pretty boring show. They would basically show the launch and then have to wait 9 months until the spacecraft made it to Mars then show the landing. Other than that this is what the show would consist of once they got to Mars.

Day 1: Shows astronauts walking on mars. Earth celebrates. Yay for spacetravel Big smile
Days 2-XX: "Well we found a new rock to run tests on. And our food seems to be growing well."
Season Finale: Launch to return home.

Really though people need to take smaller steps with spacetravel like:
1. Make getting to orbit cheap, easy, and routine.
2. Go back to the moon
3. Build base on the moon.
4. Rendezvous with asteroid
5. Go to mars

It just doesn't make sense to go for a hail mary when we haven't had any practice landing a manned spacecraft on a celestial body in 40 years.

yeah, it's more efficient to not look into getting them back off the rock once they're down. so the plan is that once they're there, they're there till they time out.

all considering the RCMP have fewer members than the NYC police, and does the same job in Canada as the police, FBI, ATF, and probably some other groups too. they might look a little silly, but they are just as good as normal police, they just have some more formalities.
