Hey guys. I'm currently running level 4 missions using my Tengu which does

723 dps
volley of 2689

using heavy assault missiles. This goes pretty damn fast but wondered if a BS such as CNR would do them faster with a higher volley dps?? I have a CNR fit which would use cruise doing

599 dps
volley of 3922.

Should I just stick with my tengu or would it be faster to clear levels with the CNR? I dont want to spend loads of isk on a CNR if its not going to be better than my tengu:-)

Thanks peeps!!

IF you do only missions that needs to be shot, and no traveling involved... Like Pirate invasion, Extravaganzas, vengeance... then you might consider a BS. However remember that BS has some dificulties dealing with frigates, so something like stop the thief or silence informant could be an issue.
However if you say that you BLITZ missions, there's nothing better than tengu.

And by the way, why would you considet switching to lower dps ship? so what if it has bigger volley, but there's no missions that would be 1-2 volleys of shooting. with rare exception. lower dps = slower killing = more time to do mission...

a raven will kill frigs faster than a ham tengu.

I should buy an Ishtar.

The only blitzable mission in that list is Dread Pirate Scarlet and that's best done in an arty Mach (pop Scarlet in the second and third rooms after bypassing the first with a gate key, scoop the implant, go home, collect double bounty). Other easy blitz missions include Recon (full chain in a Stabber or Vagabond; no shots fired) and Stop the Thief (buy a stack of reports, pop trigger, pop Shadow, go home).

In general, the Tengu isn't a bad ship for blitzing, but to make it work you'll want heavy missiles. The whole idea on blitzing is to complete mission objectives quickly and go home, so the extra range on heavies is well worthwhile. Travel time rapidly becomes your limiting factor if you concentrate on the right missions, so larger hulls usually won't help.

faction launchers on tengu beat tech 2 cruises on a raven.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

Tengu or CNR, it always depends on the mission. Against targets with Kinetic as the primary or secondary damage hole, a well skilled Tengu will beat a well-skilled CNR. On those that are resistant to Kinetic (think Bloods and Sanshas) a CNR will beat the Tengu. The in-betweens really depend on the ratio of BS to non-BS rats. More BS favors the CNR while moderate or small numbers of BS favor the Tengu.
That said, I fly both the CNR and Tengu and have run them on all but Enemies About (I've run it, just not regular enough to comment) and can say that I find the Tengu to be the superior boat, with DPS being somewhat of a tie. However I do agree with the other posters, on L4s you want to put HMs on the Tengu. Either go with CN if you have the isk or T2 if you have the skills.

Remove the HAMS and get HMLS. HAMS are fine for PVP but HMLS are better for killing NPC. Tengu is one of the best blitzing ships in the game hands down. It is fast, it tanks better than anything I have flown besides my passive Nighthawk it has very good and constant DPS against all ship sizes with right fit and skillz..

You are not going to having any more luck with a slow BS.

Gurista can be semi-blitzed only need kill the first spawn in all rooms. I can run it pretty damn fast. I think he is more talking about he only wants to run certain missions and blitz the parts he can.

If you have to move, nothing beats a Tengu. (Or Mach but I can't fly a Mach, so.)

If you don't have to move, nothing beats a CNR. (Especially if you can use t2 sentries - CNR with Garde IIs is awesome!)

Some missions can be blitzed, some can't. HAM tengu has a much smaller engagement envelope than a HML tengu and struggles with frigates, which cuts blitz times considerably. HML tengu does less paper DPS than HAM tengu but doesn't struggle to apply it, which can make a difference on otherwise quick missions like Duo of Death, where you have to pop a couple of Spider Drones for completion.

If you have standing above 5.0 with more than one faction, the Tengu really starts to shine - load up on ammo and use the agent finder to check out as many l4 security agents as you feel like traveling to. Decline slogs, Accept blitzes, and enjoy the isk.

Actualy I was making spreadsheet just for some information for myself. And what I found out, is that there's only 3 missions that are worth much more than others. And that includes rewards, bounty and LP...
So while actualy you could do this, it would'nt make much difference because you'd waste much time on traveling to different agents.

Some missions are worth more, some less, but with my tengu (NOT HAM) I average on 65 kk/hour/acc. (I run it with 2 acc).

EVE is the game where you need spreadsheets if you want maximise anything. However so does any other game. I'm just trying to enjoy it and don't count stuff that's not interesting for me to do.

A Nightmare is a lot quicker then a CNR against any em/therm vulnerable rats. I prefer my Tengu over my CNR tempted by the Mach but thinking braindead mission running in a Gila/Rattlesnake might be something worth doing with the amount of RL work I have.

Mach gets almost Tengu like speed with an Afterburner, similar dps @ range (probably gets outdpsed past 40km) but alot more point blank dps and maybe less align time. Switchable ammo types, barely effected by ewar etc

Tengu, because a lot med and small rats on mission, dps is big enought to kill every battleship and while you deal with frigates change to precision missile, also better vs cruisers bc rats, dont look at alpha strike value, voley is good most in pvp not pve in my opinion, ship like CNR are awesome to deal dmg to battleship but low efficienty vs small and med targets, you need use drones to fight vs frigates in close combat because cruise missile got horrible efficienty vs small targets or high resist cruisers on missions (alternative golem with target painters) ?

In some cases you need like 3min long shoting cruise missile vs few of tech t2 frigaters rats on mission... this is longer than deal with rat bs... while using CNR.

So what if you got better alpha strike on CNR if your lock time, reolad time, rate of fire, is far away form tengu... Alpha works good only vs big npc with big signature, your alpha is reduced depend enemy signature, expolsion radius, enemy speed, and resistance, while using missile.

CNR are good ship but not all in one, like tengu, of course is only may opinion.
