Security Status Filter on Buy Orders

I think it would be really nice to see an optional security status filter on buy orders, so that you could say "anywhere in region, where security status greater than or equal to 0.3" for instance.

This would give players who don't want to stray from high sec the option to buy goods more widely, without the worry of catching some nearby low sec systems.

It would probably also be worth either implicitly, or by means of an extra option, filtering it not only to sec status >= n.n, but also check that there is an available flight path from the buy order system to the destination system without going through lower security status systems (i.e. you can't get from Nonni (0.5) to Otalieto (0.5) without going through 0.4 space)

You can already tell the market to only show things in a certain security band (high/low/null). I don't think the flight path calculation is there, but that's probably because it would take a pretty big relational database to store all that and it's just not worth it when people can just open their map and look to see if there's a clear route (it's pretty easy to remember the common pockets in your region).

Yeah but I am not talking about buying directly, for which I completely agree with you. I am referring to Buy Orders where you pay in escrow in the hopes that someone will in due course have goods to fulfil your order. You can specify a range, duration and minimum quantity for your buy order, but not a security status.

Even though I am a giant carebear, hi-sec trader, I can't support this. Additional interface options shouldn't be introduced to alleviate risk or proper market research, IMO.

As I see it, if you're willing to take the risk of flying in Low-Sec, you should have the easy mode button of "Region" as your Buy Order range. If you don't want to take the risk, sit down with the star map and figure out what systems to place your orders in and how far out your range can go without hitting low-sec.

There should always be some reward for taking on additional risk. Additionally, cutting out low-sec like that will make low-sec markets and contracted blockade runners even MORE sad pandas.

You can already do this, just not with region-wide orders. You just have to plan properly and place your buy orders so that they extend to just inside of the lowsec border. It'll use up a few order slots, but that's the price you pay for not wanting to buy throughout the region.

It goes back to the whole risk and reward balance thing.
