Why DUST 514 is going to be a failure

Not because of the game content but becuase of CCP's planning.

So CCP is going to release this DUST 514 on the exteremely outdated Playstation 3 right?
My view is this, why are they not preparing it for PlayStation 4 where they are guranteed large purchases?

CCP, you do know the Playstation 4 comes out in 6 months right?

or the 360 which has 3 times the player base, and isn't planned to be replaced by a new system for a few more cycles.

Such is CCP's confidence that Laurino readily promised an Eve-like lifespan for Dust 514. "Our whole plan for the game, our whole roadmap, extends out over five years now," he said.

That suggests Dust 514 will be able to transition from PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4. Will it?

"A very astute question," shuffled Laurino, "but one that I can not comment on today. But, obviously, given the statement I just made, you know, that's a very interesting topic."

I didn't even know the ps4 was coming out, but if the price was anything like the original you can guarantee I won't be picking one up for the first few years.

EDIT: Also just pointing out their planning can't be worse than 3D realms. But they may have suffered from the same disease, trying to keep the game ahead of the pack in terms of graphics while still in development....or it may actually take this long to develop a game that's going to integrate itself with another. I dunno, I'm just guessing. I've never kept up with this project.

I agree, even this old man can see the logic in that. Its obvious once the Nintendo Playbox 4 comes out the previous one will be a dead system, everyones gonna throw them in the trash. Every game thats commin out for it from now till trash day is a waste of time obviously.

From the news on the PS4 - it'll run PS3 stuff -- and more.

Also from news on the PS4 - the dev kits went out some months ago but who got what would be covered under NDAs - meaning CCP couldn't talk about such things.

Being as CCP worked out its agreements with Sony long after the PS4 was being announced as in development, you can bet they were on the development kit receiving list but don't expect them to violate NDA's by saying so without permission.

CCP went with Sony because Sony would allow the communication between databases - Eve and Dust. Xbox would not allow this. That was the story when the decision was made.

AS much as I don't like consoles and stuff alike I have to say it: simple don't buy it (new ps4) or don't play it (dust)

Everything big companies do is to make you buy even when you don't need, if you do it it's your choice not theirs. Why would you buy something you don't need or outdated ?

I'm liking fps games, Dust is not for PC then I will not play it. I'm the only one who decides what's good for me or not, not some random company for who I'm just a random milky cow like every other random company.

Since they've already stated they will simply release a version compatible with the PS 4 when it comes out, I'm not overly worried. You'll be able to play from either a PS3 or a PS4 for quite some time.

You're working on the assumption that Dust won't be playable on a PS4. That's kind of a stupid assumption, given that CCP has a 10 year roadmap for Dust, don't you think?

even though i own a ps3, i still own AND PLAY my ps2. in fact, i play my ps2 at least 3-4 times a week.

i may trade in my ps3 towards the purchase of a ps4 since ps4 is supposed to be backwards compatible with ps3 games.
