OP, where are you missioning? Highsec? And in which space?

I'm guessing Gal space since that's where the 'tar you mentioned excels... in which case ignore all the Tengu hype and go for a Mach with Phased Plasma. It's also the ship of choice, obviously, for Minnie space. Nothing, but nothing rapes Angel rats like a Machariel.

In Amarr space the Nightmare has the edge in terms of damage dealt and a better EM/Therm tank, but it's slow as buggery (as is the Varg/RS/Domi) and not much fun hands-on.

For Guristas.. meh. Tengu I suppose. Pish. But only because the Mach doesn't have a Kin primary damage type and needs a sensor strength buff. But the Tengu comes into play with its 25% bonus to Scourge.

As to salvaging.. I don't bother any more. A good Mach pilot can blitz most missions in 7-8 minutes.

It's fun to fly, turns on a sixpence and goes like the clappers. It's frigging HUGE and extremely cool. You've got Minnie & Gal BS to V so you deserve to try out the top mission-blitzing boat in the game.

I would like to see some kind of confirmation from a CCP dev, if they are indeed planning, looking into or have already decided on weather to nerf something with mission running or not.

Im not quite sure what the OP meant by nulsec friends, but im assuming he meant the goons, which may indeed be a large group of people but I dont think they cary any weight to troll a dev into doing something bad to the game.

Otherwise, on the subject, I have a feeling Marauders are where its at.

Errr....the lead dev was, at the very least, a goon. He did the goon presentation at Fanfest in 2007. He is quite likely STILL a goon, but will constantly deny it. The lead dev, with a couple more CCP employees, will be at the Las Vegas "Eve convention". Look up the Eve Las Vegas convention web site. Note the links on the main page. Note the list of alliances attending.

Then tell me that null sec has no sway over the development team.
Also, watch the lead dev's interview with Ten Ton Hammer during fanfest.
Then tell me that the high sec mission nerf is not coming.

And as for the mission boat question, I think I am leaning to the Mach or Vargur.
