Has anyone ever thought about creating a "ready-to-play" package of EVE for Linux?

A few issues will need to be adressed though.

1: Legal issues: We cannot repackage the required DLL's (AFAIK)
2: Legal issues, CCP : Repacking a installed client is usually a violation of the EULA.
3: Distro-compatibility: WINE cannot be statically compiled - Thus we might end up with binary compatibility issues.

Is this goal worth spending more time on? Or should I completely forget about this idea?

you can create a play on linux installation profile or how the software is named ....

or winetricks for that matter .....

There is not really a reason for this since its pretty easy to install and it just a mess to maintain across different distros. POL or PlayOnLinux is the only thing think would make sense or winetricks but there is already a EVE entry for that in there dunno if it got the latest overrides though or how up to date it is.

Srsly, you only need few commands to make it work so why waste time to maintain it?

Create prefix (whatever folder you want)
$ WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/Games/EVE
$ winetricks vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2010 corefonts and the dx3d_42?(typo) if you intend on playing on another prefix other than the installed prefix.
Then the overrides for Exefile.exe and eve.exe and your done.

Takes 1minute, if you get the overrides from terminal it will make it even faster.
