So you're saying the majority of EVE's playerbase is in high school, with the average skewed by a decent number of octogenarian players?

You can take up the specifics with CCP. It's their statistic.

Last year the average age of an EVE player was 30. So definitely not a school kid. Try again.

EDIT: Statistics from 2010's CSM voting.

" The average age of voters was 30.8 years, slightly higher than the average age of EVE 's player-base."

Source: Massively Interview on CSM 2010 Voting.

There ya go.

Summer is irrelevant? Are you sure you haven't taken a heavy blow to the head at some point? How many national holidays take place around that period of time every year worldwide? Should also be noted that according to an IPP report from 2011, the most popular time period for working men and women to take a summer holiday was in the last week of May through to the first week of July.

Being a 33 year old man with no kids, I can tell you that I and many people I know of my age, prefer to take our holidays slightly before or slightly after, peak season. This way we can avoid the real "Summer Season" when everyone takes their screaming children away for a week of sunburn and tantrums. But of course, I guess I and my friends are the only thirty somethings in the entire western world that do this......Summer is far from irrelevant, except to those who wish to believe the sky is falling no matter how much contradictory evidence there is.

Using actual information, instead of theories based on your vacation habits, show me the summer slump with numbers: http://eve-offline.net/?server=tranquility

Then we can talk some more.

If memory serves for most of the time I've played Eve the past 3+ years logging in late evening eastern US Timezone the population has been in the mid 30,000's , the past month or so its been in the mid 20,000's, maybe the proposed late spring slump, maybe success in botter elimination, maybe miners turned off by hulkaggeddon, burn jita etc. I don't offer explanations, just observations.

Why would I converse any further with someone who hasn't bothered reading anything else I said in this thread?

Octogenarian specifically refers to those over 80. http://www.merriam-webster.com/medical/octogenarian I'm just sayin'.

Not schoolkid, that's for sure. But now at 47, I fully understand why at 30, older folks called me 'young man' all the time. TBH, 30's are still 'squirelly'.

Um, I was talking to Mina Hiragi, not you or Cutout. I was actually backing up what Cutout had said about the average age of an EVE player being in their 30's, so why are you giving me dictionary definitions of octogenarian?

I read every word, sir. The proposition is simple: using the numbers from Chribba's site, show us that the numbers go down between late May and early September each year. It should be simple for you to do if you are correct. Since Jester has been kind enough to do the number crunching for us, it baffles me that you continue this pretense. Show me the numbers that prove Jester wrong . I will happily admit that I was wrong if you show me the numbers.

I'm not even sure why you're arguing about it, other than you'd like to believe that EVE is growing and flowering. It's not. EVE isn't dead, and it's not likely to die tomorrow. But in a game built around player-driven content, stagnation or decline in the population is a potentially serious problem.

As u can see theyre is a trend DOWNWARD. At the start of the graph there is 30,000 players and at the end of the graph ere is 12,000.
!
Considering that the very first graph shows spikes over 40K - in the last 24 hours - it doesn't really matter if you failed to correctly determine the time axis: You Fail, regardless.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

That's not a Spike Roll.

It's Peaks at just BARELY over 40,000. Like 40,098. Still not the 53,000 that was almost daily at this time and weekday back in early April.

Clear enough? Now consider outside events having an impact on server stats, things like national holidays, new games being released, stuff like that. Year on year there is a drop around the same time of the year. Sometimes those drops coincide with CCP making hideous mistakes like the Incarna release, and sometimes they coincide with things like the release of Diablo 3 and the Beta for Guild Wars 2 and the Beta for DUST514.

I'd say that was pretty clear, wouldn't you? And as you can see, year on year numbers continue to grow.
