Oh, I fully agree. The times I did mine were generally because I was either fleeted with a friend I hadn't spoken to for a while and we relaxed, drank and chatted the whole time, or I was busy doing other things at the same time. I've never mined for money simply because until now the value of ore was just terrible. But even now with the higher market value of even the low-ends, I still prefer missioning for ISK because it at least keeps me awake. If it gets too tedious, just failfit your ship and try something new.

Taking away the semi-AFK status will just cause a lot of people to quit mining, which is a shame since it can be a good social activity from my experience, and encourage more solo-oriented gameplay (like missioning). Though tbh, flying in a group of Daredevils in a level 4 mission like Worlds Collide can be quite hilarious the first few times. Lol

I mined with my first few corps and it was the most boring activity ever. I got can flipped a few times and killed.
I even remember the first time I was killed in Tama moving robotics to try to make a quick profit. They were cheap bait, I learned that fast.

I then switched to missions, figured it's like mining but the asteroids shoot back a little.
This got booring fast. same crapola again and again

So I tried sleepers, got killed etc etc. not fun but got me curious about learning how to NOT die.
Then I learned that wormholes had a rating system! GO FIGURE! no manual tells you there are 6 separate classes of wormholes and that they actually affect your ship differently! POOF, I went back after being defeated and tried again armed with NEW intel.

This time I was solo killing sleepers in a C1, tough little bugs but great loot. Then I tried a C2, flying my cloak tengu and again killing sleepers. C3, was too tough solo, so I teamed up.

Missions are by far the best way to earn ISK if that is really what you are after, the rewards are much higher then anything you can mine.

Well it sounds like you are definitely an adventurous soul. More power to you. I hope you keep that, but also be adventurous when dealing with other people and realize that what drives them is not the same as what drives you. Rewards are different for every person.

Indeed, mission running is fun. Although, I wonder if you run anymore Daredevils in those level 4s since their nerf? Still I know what you mean. We ran some level 4s in a bunch of destroyers with logi backup. That was a lot of fun.

Sadly since I trained the Tengu, I've not used half the ships I owned to the point that I sometimes wish I'd never trained for it. I gave the Daredevil away before the nerf and haven't bought one since so I'm not even sure what changed. I tried a couple of missions in a blaster Harpy after the hybrid buffs though which was quite funny, but wasn't as much fun as the Daredevil with it's ridiculous DPS. Destroyers and logi sounds really interesting though - now I wish I'd tried that, especially with the destroyer and hybrid buff. Big smile

The destroyer thing was before the buff, but it was a lot of fun. It was a lot different having to rely on someone else to do the healing.

Actually, I'm training for a Tengu now. I've got about 20 days until I'd feel comfortable flying one.

Almost everybody mines afk. If you're not afk, you do something more engaging.

People don't pay $14.99/mo to mine. They pay $14.99 to play the game. Some people just like to mine during their afk time. If the profits exceed the costs, then it's worthwhile to mine while afk.

Most miners just don't care if they get ganked because it's better to make 50 million ISK during those 20 afk hours even after having to replace two hulks than to be logged off and make 0 ISK. It's amazing how many people can't grasp this.

If I was a CCP developer and people were so disinterested in my game that they did OTHER things while "playing" or whatever you call it I would be very concerned that the game was not engaging or fun enough. when you play pac man or asteroids you don't gobble up pills AFK, I never heard of AFK game play until eve.

I don't agree with virtual bullying but I also wonder how a virtual zombie is any different???

Goons are a pain in the ass, I get that, but zombie players are like walls planted in space, unmotivated to even speak, at least now they are active, even if it is only on the forums.

I really want to try command ships, they are a bit of a mystery still but they seem like a shiny new toy to try.

It isn't about being disinterested in 'the game', it's about one aspect of the game being extremely boring and tedious that some people have found another use for. I mean, it's not like people who want to chill out, catch up and chat can do so while fighting in a fleet, and my own attempts to chat while missioning have led to some spectacular fails on my part (yeah multitasking isn't my forté) Oops

Sometimes people also have IRL things they have to do and semi-AFK mining enabled them to log in to make a few more ISK for when they logged on later, reducing the amount of grinding they had to do to have some fun when they were free to enjoy their game time.

WIS/Incarna/whatever seemed like it might help to provide a social setting to just be able to relax and talk to friends while making a little ISK (or losing through gambling) on the side, but that's been shot down.

The only one I've used is the Nighthawk, though I really wanted to fly the Sleipnir. The amount of training required at the moment is ridiculous for what they are, but hopefully the upcoming requirement rebalancing will change that and the Command Ship/T3 ratio will change a bit.

Well there is a difference. Zombie players aren't out to gank you. They are just doing their business. They don't impact your game at all. I don't like botters though. That's a different story.

If you are organizing a mining fleet, there's a lot of coordination to do. If you are mining by yourself, not so much.

Well, I'm not sure how interesting one can make mining. Plus, I see it as an important activity within the Eve universe, because everything is supposed to be generated by the players. So resources have to come from somewhere. Personnally, I like to mine more than doing PI.

Part of me thinks that mining was supposed to be mainly a group activity, as there's a lot of coordination that needs to go on.

I think people do grasp this. They are just sick of people whining about being ganked if they aren't even there paying attention, or putting on a proper tank, or staying aligned to a celestial...

People are more then likely also sick of people crying for fundamental gameplay changes because they can't prevent/deal with the loss...
