Suicide Ganking help needed

Hey guys I recently started getting into suicide ganking, and its definitely one of the more fun things to do in eve! Been going at it with two accounts a gank toon and a scooper/scanner. Not the most optimum choice I guess as most of the tips advise a dedicated hauler toon thus I had to limit myself to low volume high value stuff.

Got a few faction mods and plexes so far, but its just so hard to find anyone afking in a hauler through trade routes anymore, most of the good stuff are wtz on gates or in shuttles. How does one gank people warping to zero in gates? Especially shuttles or frigates, even if I fit my scanner with all sebos and got over 1700nm scan res, I still cannot lock and scan a frigate reliably before it warps off. However I see some of D3's killmails with him pulling it off and killing with instalocking canes or smarties, how does one pull that off before the frig warps off?
Any tips greatly appreciated :D I could never find a complete guide to suicide ganking

Smarties don't require a lock, and if you decide to, you can cheaply thrasher it up and kill small things without scanning them.
