Decided to go -10, how to stay self-sustained?

So I've decided that I've had just about enough of highsec, and would rather blow **** up in lowsec (or highsec, tears are tears) instead. I'm more than willing to go -10 on sec status.

My only concern is keeping the ISK coming in to keep buying ships and the like with. Until now, I've mostly been doing the occasional L4 mission to pay for whatever I need. Obviously, that won't be an option after so long. What do the rest of you who live in lowsec usually do to get by?

I can fully T2 fit Minmatar Frigates and Interceptors, and fly up to a Hurricane. At this point, I can only see nullsec ratting being a decent source of ISK. Is making an alt or something or only other option?

Train up a bestower alt on one of your character slots. Takes just a few hours and can take care of most of your hauling and market needs. For larger and more expensive things use Red Frog or its low/null variant Black Frog.

For money in low sec I prefer exploration. The probing skills used in exploration will also aid you in probing down mission runners. There are also plenty of quite systems where you can run lvl 4 missions if that is your thing. Just set a goal to spend as little time care bearing as possible. Accomplish this through flying what you can afford and not taking suicidal risks. Personally I haven't had to shoot any red crosses in about a month.

Yeah, I don't plan on flying around in Battleships all the time or anything. I'll probably be in a Rifter most of the time, maybe a Hurricane every so often.

And luckily for me, I already have some good scanning skills. Back when I had first started playing the game, I had flown with Suddenly Ninjas for a few months and did a lot of ship scanning back then. Good to hear that those skills could be used for more than just the occasional ship scan.

The key is stocking your home base with gear so that you can afford to be patient buying stuff and having it shipped to you.

First I created a trading alt. You get a good set of basic trading from the get go without investing any time in skills at all. A few more hours of skillpoints gets you lots of market slots etc.

Second, fly that alt to the trading hub nearest your base of low sec operations.

Third, decide on the fits you want and put up buy orders for those (never buy from sell orders). Aim to always have lots of extra ships ammo etc around.

Fourth, create courier contracts to ship the stuff to your base of operations. I'm serious. Who wants to waste time flying a hauler around with an alt when you can pay someone to do it for you. If you put up a contract with a reasonable insurance payout and a reasonable price on it, people will haul it for you, then one of two things happens: either it gets to you or it gets ganked and you get the insurance to put up more buy orders. Occasionally, I've accidentally blown up a hauler with my own stuff in it. Pirate

The trading alt can be a great source of secondary income too. if you find that you are buying stuff faster than you can get it blown up, then you can start selling it back at sell order prices.

This pretty much convinced me to re-sub my trade alt.

This could be fun.

Don't even need a second account. Just use one of your other two slots to get the basics. But then making all that ISK gets addicting and then next thing you know…

I figure I'll end up getting a second account anyways, at least for a month or two. Might as well capitalize on Hulkageddon while I can. Don't want the un-exploded mods to go to waste.

_It's very simple, really. If you see Tengus on scan, they are ratting. If you see a shitload of Tengus, the Russians are blobbing. If you see Proteuses on scan, they will be on top of you in about a second. If you see a shitload of Proteuses, the big boys are having a goodfight. _

Talking about blowing up our own courier contracted haulers won't go well in the market discussion forum.

FW is a good source of income in low, but requires an alt or courier contracts to get stuff to market hubs from LP store. Havent been in highsec except to suicide gank in years.

If you're already used to missioning as an isk pump, just move to lowsec and join a faction warfare corp that is tolerant of negative security status and pirating. That will give you access to FW mission agents for your faction corp. Learn what LP loot is specific to your faction and sells well on the market, then go run the missions to rake in the isk. Now that pvp in FW also earns LP, the prices for LP loot are in flux, but it's still good money. Of course, the whole missioning game is orders of magintude more dangerous in lowsec than in highsec, but you get what you pay for.

edit: Yeah- what Nexx said. ^^^

just train a hauler alt on another slot on the account.. it takes a few hours at most.. not worth signing up a second account for if that's all you need it for.

ISK Making: Probe down and run the complexes in your area. I know guys who would make and easy hundred mil everyday doing this. That's plenty of ISK to sustain small gang or solo PVP.

Gettin' yo sheat: Train a hauler on a 2nd char slot, or use courier contracts. Tons of people will deliver smallers (sub 30km3) contracts to low sec because they can use cloaky haulers. For larger shipments look to low sec JF operations (Black Frog).

Exploration was my saving grace when I lived in low. Not only could it find sites, but it could also find wormholes leading into null or other lowsec systems.

I also made liberal use of warp core stabilizers (they're not just for carebears) when I went to buy stuff. You can also go out in a destroyer and rat, occassionally finding BS and officer spawns.

Make sure you live somewhere off the beaten in path if you're not in a big corporation and make sure it's not a dead end system.

Or just get an alt *shrug*

If you don't want to get a full on second account, you can use one of your extra 2 character slots to train up a cloaking hauler alt to make jita runs for you.

As far as making money goes, mag / radar /ladar sites as well as running complexes are the way to go.

If you are in a corp big enough to take over some planets, then you can make a steady income doing PI. Either straight harvesting or factory planets.

And there is always new faction warfare, which hands out LP for everything now. Also since they fiddled with datacores you can make some good money off of them.

I honestly think PoCo based sov is a good idea https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1417544
