Maintaining Security Status - a question for suiside gankers

Having never popped another player's ship myself, I have no first hand experience with this, so I figured I'd let the friendly pilots of C&P field this one.

When you suicide gank another player in high sec (just their ship, not their pod) how much security status do you lose?

What methods do you use to recover that sec status (to avoid slipping below -5) and how long would you estimate it takes to recover the status lost from one suicide gank?

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

use an alt. drop off a catalyst at your pod in a safe spot by the belt you aim to gank, when you're ready to set the gank up, main gets into the catalyst and warps straight to the belt. faction police & concord take a while to arrive.

Yep. If/when you want to get your sec status back, you can go from -10 to -1.9 within a few hours if you properly rat. Bit grindy, but doable.

Remember that faction police will spawn on you in 1.0 sec when you are -2, and it steps down another system sec level (0.9, 0.8, etc) for each -0.5 afterwards (-2.5, -3, -3.5, etc)

i might be wrong as game mechanics aren't really my thing, but isn't it better to kill one high-ISK BS in system A, then do the same in system B, then system C, then system D, rinse and repeat every 15 mins?

Answer - it depends. It depends on the sec status of the system (the higher it is the more you lose) and the sec status of the unfortunate you've just welcomed properly to EVE (the lower the sec status of the player, the less you lose). You take 2 hits - a small one for agression and a large one for the ship kill. On average in a .5 system you will lose about .45 of sec status. BTW - pod kills although sometimes merited cause a great whcking hit to your sec status.

What methods do you use to recover that sec status (to avoid slipping below -5) and how long would you estimate it takes to recover the status lost from one suicide gank?

Sadly, ratting is the only viable option atm (although CCP has hinted at tags being turned in down the road). Optimal ratting is killing a single high value rat Battleship in a 5 or 6 system null-sec loop as you get one bump per system per 15 minutes or so. You can also rat in lo-sec, but the rat quality is much worse. You can also get sec status bumps from some missions, but its very inconsistent. On average, you will need to kill anywhere from 15 to 25 rat BS to recover the sec status for one hi sec gank.

BTW, lessons on "rat-fu" are available......

I appreciate the offer, but that won't be necessary. I have no intention of picking up the practice myself. I'm merely working on some adaptation strategies for hulkageddon and wanted to learn more about the art of the gank from the gankers themselves, so I can factor that behavior into mine.

Thank you all once again for the information, and happy hunting.

most gankers don't care about sec status, its easy enough with evasive manuvering 3 to avoid police continuously, also they travel in pods alot and have orca alts ejecting them catalyst at safe spots

its pretty easy to live in empire as -10 as long as you dont try to afk

honestly not sure why -5 and below aren't prohibited from dock or using empire jumpgates

probably the ragequit would cost ccps too much money

No one controls the gates, they just work because the Reapers want it to work that way Big smile

I thought Shepard destroyed the gates? if that's so, whose gates are we using now?

true.
Find pocket in 0.0 kill Bs - jump next sys - kill Bs there - repeat until satisfied
