Why Goonswarm Needs the Indefinite Hulkageddon

Today, the indefinite Hulkageddon was announced. It's a pretty good deal - kill ten exhumers and get 100M ISK. An enterprising ganker could make quite a good deal of money doing this.

And the wailing and gnashing of teeth rises from the carebear community. "Why?" they ask.

I'll tell you why.

Goonswarm is a militaristic empire. There have been many such empires in recent times, and there are a few in existence in the modern world. All of these militaristic empires have one thing in common, and Goonswarm, while a virtual empire, is no exception. The need for a common enemy.

When Goonswarm was new in EVE, it had an enemy - the infamous Band of Brothers. The fight to overwhelm this massive metagaming alliance caused Goonswarm to become a tougher, meaner, more unified fighting force. In order to shore up its support, Goonswarm used James 315 as the primary author of anti-BoB forum postings. Of course, as a game, they enjoyed dismantling BoB very much. For a while, the struggle continued, until Goonswarm finally overcame their enemy.

Then, they needed a new enemy. After a few campaigns, conquests, and victories, Goonswarm managed to secure its position in the Technetium-rich northern regions. This is the situation we find the universe in now. No major power is left that would be worth fighting for Goonswarm.

This is when militaristic empires begin to crumble.

Therefore, a new enemy was needed. A new cause had to be taken up. A new crusade had to be called.

Goonswarm had a nice run with the Gallente ice interdiction, but it was far too minor to last for long. Something more drastic had to be thought up.

Goonswarm's great cheerleader, James 315, answered the call yet again. And so he began writing his 'manifestos'.

With vitriol reminiscent of a 1930s dictator, James 315 singled out the so-called 'cancer of EVE' - the hisec carebear. Specifically, miners. Whether they were bots or not, it did not matter. The enemy had been declared.

And so we find ourselves in the current situation. Goonswarm and its allies have declared all-out war against hisec. Not necessarily because they're a bunch of neckbeards and jerks, but for a two-cold practical reason. Goonswarm profits economically, and Goonswarm manages to keep its militaristic empire together.

This is why Goonswarm has declared war against hisec carebears.

And for all you short-attention span kids:

  • Goonswarm is a militaristic empire. Militaristic empires need someone to fight or they will decay.
  • Goonswarm had defeated their old enemies and had no major enemies to fight.
  • Hisec was as big an enemy as could possibly be imagined.
  • There are also economic incentives for this assault on hisec.

Yep. That's about it, just like The Mittani said. We gotta keep from being bored, and that means EXPLOSIONS.

That said, I spend time happily making money, dodging all the reds of course (gotta take steps to protect myself, you know) and generally having fun on forums via topics. Like this one!

you forgot that they own all the resources to make the hulks and sell them to the miners as well as the building all the gank ships and fittings too

why my boy, you've only just scratched the surface
this plunderhole goes much deeper

much much deeper

I for one welcome our new goon overlords

This is one of those threads that screams "See how smart I am!" It's not news to anybody that Goon thrives on attention and dies without it. That's what all this bombast boils down to. What are you going to do about it? Pay more attention to them by writing more thoughtful posts about why they do what they do? They already know.

I just hope that if I had managed to retire before 30, I would have found something better to do with my life than this.

Hoped to find someone that could really see the reasons. Left disappointed.

Keep thinking about it tho. Eventually you'll find an answer.

Yep. It's us, making EVE die along with the new unified UI, incursion nerfs and datacore nerfs.

It's us.

Actually, I thought this was all part of a Devil's Advocate plot by Mittani. He's trying to force CCP's hand in finally getting around to rebalancing mining / moon goo / nerfing Technetium -- which was one of his pet projects on CSM7.

Remember, Mittani was originally a Nullsec Miner, and he recognizes the Nullsec Ecosystem NEEDS those mining ops. This is a far cry from the average paste eating pubbie, who thinks that what Nullsec really needs is Concord.

Nothing could be better for the game than to re-balance the industrial aspect of the game to the point that Highsec Mining is considered a newbie profession, and real miners head out to low and null to get their rocks off mine.

Unfortunately, in order to do that, the whiny, pathetic AFK (bot) miners who have been browbeating CCP for years have to be silenced. Forever.

Hence: Hulkageddon Infinity, the first part of Goonswarm's final solution to the entitled pubbie problem.

It was getting somewhat spartan of "Goons are Mean" and "Mittani is literally Hitler" (lies, that's Solo Drakban), wasn't it?

GOONs...Dictator....CCP

some how it all goes together. not sure how it fits but the mechanics are working smoothly.

Oh!!! another way to look at it....GOON members were those kids in school that got picked on not just by the school yard bully but also by the GIRLS!!!!!

Seeing that they cannot handle their real life emotional trama and hang ups have to let it out in a game where they can pick on the little guy.

hmmmmm

Yes i for see in the near future CCP will need to re-evaluate their stance on playing the game Hilmar as well on his staff.....

I see Hulkageddon as being part of a much needed redress of the risk/reward formula in Eve. For too long has highsec been a place where the best rewards come to those exposed to the smallest risks.

I personally look forward to Tengugeddon which will redress the balance of risk/reward for highsec missions

Some of the mission running ships drop really nice stuff too.

Are Tengus or Raven Navy Issues the current favorite now? Or golems?
