Proposal: Bring Back the New (Old?) Module Icons

A While back, CCP Upgraded Module (Namely - Turret, Slavager, and Tractor Beam) Icons. For some Reason that is beyond me, some people didnt like them, so CCP Changed them. I loved them, I was only saddened by the goofy launcher Icons.
My Proposal? Bring them Back. Some of us liked them.

But youre all saying "What about those of us who didnt like them?"
Simple. Add an toggle in the Excape Menu called "Simplified Module Icons". Players can choose whether they want the new 'realistic' icons or the older 'goofy' icons.

Why?
Aside from the fact that some of us simply liked them, the new Icons allowed us to tell in the fitting screen, in space and in the inventory what module was what. One could Quickly and Easily tell the Difference Between Mega Pulse Lasers and Dual Heavy Pulse Lasers - Neutron Blaster Cannons and Electron Blaster Cannos - 200mm and 250mm Railguns - without having to mouse over each module individually to find out its name.

I feel like the new icons added more to the game than they removed, and with the option to toggle them on and off, it would be a win/win situation.

The Icons already Exist (Im assuming CCP wouldnt Just Delete them? I remember hearing something about trying to reintroduce them). Now that we have Missile and Bomb Launcher Models, those could be included too)

Examples (Using Battleship Turrets):

Old Hybrids:

-New Railguns:

-New Blasters:

Old Lasers:

-New Beam Lasers:

-New Pulse Lasers:

Old Projectiles:

-New Artillery:

-New Autocannons:
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Item_Database:Ship_Equipment:Turrets_&_Bays:Projectile_Turrets:Autocannons:Large

Would Appreciate any Input on this Topic from CCP: I know i cant be the only one that liked the New Icons, and i wouldnt be the only one happy to see them return, particularly with the option to toggle between new or old icons.

The reason they were removed is because of the difficulty of seeing the dark icons against most backgrounds.

I understand that they were removed for a reason, but they were also included for a reson.
Also, remember that we would have the ability to chose between new or old icons.

Indeed. The new icons looks like the turrets that actually are on the ships. I want them back too.

While I like the functionality of the original icons more, I am of the opinion it should be an option, and not the default state. A toggle box in the options would be good.

I'm not a Dev/Programmer, but how much work would it be to include a toggle and allow us to see the new Icons in their full glory(Honest Question)? Considering the Icons Already Exist?

I don't know what you're smoking, but the old icons can easily be told apart. They are very distinct. The new icons looked terrible, they were too dark to see very easily, and they all looked alike. Add to that that they took forever to load, especially when you had a lot of them in your cargo. I can agree that which one is shown should be optional, but the old icons should definitely be the default setting.

As always, its mostly personal oppinion - I found the new Icons easier to tell apart in just about all situations.
The newer Icons don't look any more Alike than the old ones (To me, atleast - probably because I started playing just after they were released)
I can see the issue with load times as being an issue
Having the Older Icons as Default would be acceptable (As long as we get the option to see the new ones)

I didn't like them because of how they looked when I was actually using them. The obvious "this is a turret" button was "this might be a cloud of space poop". The old icons scale better, which is important.

How about a compromise where each gun gets its own drawn icon to replace the render? Something that makes it easy to tell what it is at any size?

I like that Idea, however all the Turret Icons already exist, while new drawn icons would have to be made from scratch.

In addition: would a compromise be necessary, given the ability to Choose between new or old Icons?
Its not that I dislike the older Icons - myself and many others simply prefer the newer ones. I (and many others) never had issues telling one apart from another using the newer Icons. Sadly, i cant sat the same using the Old Icons (Esp. In the fitting window, where we must mouse over the Icon to see if its a Light Neutron Blaster II or a Light Ion Blaster II.

Now, Im not saying that the new Icons were perfect - they have some minor issues that can easily be worked out, but many of use would prefer them to the older icons.

+1 to this and I wasn't too happy about them removing the new icons and putting the old ones back. I had no trouble seeing the icons. Also, they don't take longer to load. An icon is an icon. If they're both 64x64px in size and both come in around the same kb size, they're not gonna make any difference.

Also:
You can tell these apart just by looking at the icons? Really?

The biggest problem with the new icons was that they are dark and difficult to make out. Since they are fairly simple in appearance, it wouldn't be hard for a few illustrators to draw up some icons for them that would be much easier on the eyes. And then for once we could tell apart similar turrets, such as electron blasters from ion blasters of the same size.

Still, I'm disappointed the new turret designs don't have at least the approximate shape of the old icons.

P.S. the loading slowly probably means they're being rendered in your cargo bay, which is entirely stupid and the icons should definitely be image files, not rendered in 3D. It wouldn't be difficult for the developers to simply screenshot rendered turrets to make some actual icon files instead of forcing us to render them every time we open up our cargo bay.

It isnt so much that the Icons were too Dark, its that the Contrast was too extreme - especially visible on large blasters.
The Front is dark to the point of Black, meanwhile the Back is too bright. This could be fixed by simply reducing the Contrast, or even increasing bringness.
