Is it worth bringing a Salvager to PVP?

Do people often salvage wrecks after pvp fights? Is it worth salvaging someones wreck, using up a hislot in the process, or better just loot the wreck?

Whats your experience?

if you have a spare high, salvager is well worth it.
T2 salvage if almost always going to make you more isk than loot if you have time to get some.

obviously if you can fit a PVP mod, do that instead.

I was ridiculed until I removed it. Now I'm only occasionally reminded of doing this.

Dont waste the high slot.

That being said, we have a battle Noctis that comes with our fleets. ;)

If you literally cannot fit anything else that is useful and you have a spare high slot, fit one. Salvaging t2 wrecks can give you quite a bit of isk back. We usually have 1 or 2 people that fit a spare salvage mod on their hulls and it's a great way to replace losses after the roam is done.

as stated above if then yes, it doesn't take that meany intact shield emitters/armor plates to pay off, even just T2 frigg wrecks are worth it.

I wanted to paint my space ship red, but I couldn't find enough goats.

On ships with spare highslots, a salvager is a fine pickup for a utility module. On fittings which are heavily capped by grid, but light on CPU, you can even leave it online. it's a particularly common fitting on t1 frigates, and 7-gun destroyers, as fitting unbonused missiles in the last slow has extremely marginal utility, and top-end guns leave no grid for a small nos. The possible extra money for new players means every single mentor program frigate gets a salvager, or sometimes even two.

Some people may give you a hard time about it, as (even offline) a small remote armor or hull rep, or a cyno can be quite useful in some situations. However, a salvager is great for getting added value out of wrecks, as well as cleaning up the signs of a gate camp for profit. With the proliferation of bombers, interceptors, and even assault frigates as affordable, useful t2 ships, it's not uncommon to find elite wrecks in PvP.

That said, even if it's not a bad fitting option, be wary that undertaking or under gunning your fit to cram in a salvager is idiotic (in the best of ways). If you decide to go whole hog, bringing a noctis to a gang is probably not the best way to go about it. Fitting out a salvaging destroyer and blending in until there's a field of wrecks clear of hostiles can net good money.

I like how you tell the OP not to waste a high slot, while mentioning that you waste a spot in your fleet by bringing a Noctis. Classic. Lol

Yeah seriously, what morons take a fully capable combat pilot and thow it in a salvage ship that takes less than 100k lp to use? Those guys shure are dumb!

edit -- in case my sarcasm wasn't thick enough, I meant you. You, guy above me, are dumb.

Fit a cyno instead. That's what spare highs are for.

Good fit? No cpu or PG left?

Offline salvager imo.

Kill something like a zealot or a vagabond, even a t2 armor frigate.

can yield anything from nothing to 100+ lol.

Only problem is spare highs are only normally spare on frigates, so yeahhhhh.

Usually if you fit a ship and have free highslot and no power grid left then squeeze in salvager. If you have time to salvage it is quite nice profit specially grabbing t2 wrecks where salvage from one wreck goes above 100mil.

If you have any covops scouts, it's a reasonable use of their extra high (assuming no cyno). I wouldn't want to hang around in a combat ship waiting for someone to stumble into me salvaging.

As the person above stated, if you have a forward probe/scout covops (as most fleets should), have them plop on a salvager. They can come back and snag everything once battle is over and people have moved on.

Money is the sinew of war. Therefore, a salvager is the single most important mod you can fit.

That sounds backwards. If you can catch and kill ships with a Noctis in the fleet its still a kill...plus salvage. Your talking about overkill arn't you? Smile

Bear in mind there's a lot of fits that will leave you with 1 utility high left and no CPU.
It is often handy to have an offline salvager in this slot so after a fight you can offline a damage mod or some such and online your salvager for any T2 wrecks. I would not bother with T1 wrecks - For T2, not checked in a while but Cap consoles and Intact Armour Plates are your pay dirt.

Prepare to be lambasted as some sort of carebear by your own fleet though (They're just jealous they didn't think of it) when they see you salvaging.

When I spent time in RvB, I remember a FC that would check if there were any salvagers in the fleet before the Lowsec Roam would begin. If there wasn't one in the fleet he would request that 1 or 2 do a quick refit before it began. He felt the ability to salvage after a fleet battle was a good thing. I can't remember his name at the moment, but I know that the better FC's do take salvaging into consideration. 'If your not planning on salvaging your kills, then you aren't planning on winning the field are you?" - unknown, but memorable quote.

BL would have about 10% fewer kills in every fight if we didn't catch morons salvaging wrecks.
