I played the EVE trial 7 years ago and recently activated it to a full account.

While my character has retained his skills, there's a slight issue with one of the tutorial missions which require me to fit a basic shield onto my starter ship but won't allow me to since I need a one level of Shield Operation and I don't have the skill book nor am I able to afford the cheapest on the market, which is around 30k+

So I'm pretty much stuck at this point.

You can do other missions though, to earn money, or just shoot rats in the belts
