A Guide to Collapsing Wormholes

I've often seen this process made to be over complicated. The idea is to push the hole to critical mass and crush it without being crushed-out. How you get it down to critical mass doesn't matter. However, I'd prefer you use Orcas so I can shoot them.

The trick is that when you push the hole to crit mass that you do so with a ship that has just under 50% of the crit mass without its AB turned on. Therefore, if you jumped back and it crits you simply jump in with your AB off and back with it on. If it crits when you jumped through then you push a smaller ship through whose mass, when added to the return trip of the first ship, is more than the crit mass.

Tada! Now go out there and show those holes who's boss.

if you know the whole is fresh and at full mass, you can just jump struff through it untill it goes midway, then bring the same ships back (with the same propmod on/off) with the heaviest ship last.

collapsing wormholes is just maths, you take the variances into account.

Another way that hasn't been mentionned here (and there are pro's and con's to this same as any other method) is the freighter method.

If you have a completely fresh (or only had small **** through it) C5 H296 WH you can use a Obelisk and Fenrir to collapse it.

Jump obby in first then fen.
Next jump fen back FIRST and then the obby.

One collapsed hole.

Advantageous because it only requires 2 pilots in ships that amount to significantly less than a properly fitted Dread + Orca + BS

Disadvantageous because the freighters are gunna die if you get jumped BUT most likely if you get jump the orca, dread and BS are gunna die..... 2 BILL freighter loss to 3-4bill total loss???

tl;dr

collapsing WHs really isnt that hard.
requires primary school level maths and some common sense.

Yeah, but you can always miss a wh by this much a could use a hictor, thing that i didn't knew about, and close the damn thing.

Question, is there a good fit for an onyx as well? I don't much about them hictors bit having just 4 lows doesn't seem to help if you want to put some plate sin it and a 100mn mwd in it.

Bob Artis, you will be missed.

Here's a quick Onyx fit I put together. It's a little tight on powergrid, but you should be able to adjust accordingly. Drop the DCU and add another RCU if you need more grid. Also leaves 1 mid slot free for utility.

This will take you mass down to pod-size going in and 68 million kg on the way back.

When force collapsing, we have several scouts with at least one that never leaves the static side. This way they can report if someone scans it down. Normally people don't see you at all unless you make your presence known, or until your cap is in their WH and by then it is far too late for them to do anything.

Dom, you left out the part where we jump in the thanatos when the hole is half-mass.

I wrote this guide for my corp a while back when we lived in a C4 with a static C3. I've updated it for our current C5 static C5. Hopefully others will find it useful.

so did i get it right ? you collapse your c5 whs with orcas ?

Please don't reply if you haven't read the entire post.

sorry may I ask from the other side.

Why would I want to close my WH with an orca + dread <- this is really really unsecure, if u get engaged ur orca is dead meat also your dread if ***** gonna get hot

close a c5 the save way:

get carrier + 4bs with mwd

carrier jump first, then all 4 bs with mwd on, the 4bs with mwd on jump back, carrier jump back = wh closed
and you are always in the situation to fight and defend yourself, if you get engaged

still for the lower whs its a nice guide well done *bookmarked*

If you get engaged closing ANY hole, you were in too much of a hurry and didn't do your homework first.

Or, someone did way more homework than you.

I also prefer the cheap-as way of collapsing wormholes: a scrub alt in a 100MN Stabber. Or ten, twenty such useless PI monkeys. Get the hole crit. You send the horde of foreskin flensings through and back, forget the maths, and just SD them if they get trapped out. Or warp to the enemy POS and give them a mail.

I like your style, i do something similar, but with carriers.

In general I drop the plate. It adds a nice chunk of mass but it kills your powergrid and tank. Without it you can generally fit better rigs. Also a meta AB will help greatly with the powergrid issues.

Also note if you are fitting a plate for mass a Rolled Tungsten is a bad idea it's lighter, and more costly than the basic tech 1 plate. 3,750,000 kg vs 2,750,000 with only a minor increase in cpu.
