I am trying to work out what kind of targets my thrasher can take on solo. I enjoy cruising round solo in Null with it into red territory, but never really know what to go for. Ideas neone?

In my short experience, solo you can go for frigs obviously, other destroyers and some interceptors. You may even succeed to bring down some failed fit cruisers but that's about it.

I used to pvp in lo sec all the time with the thrasher.

If you're got the autocannon + MSE fit, you can take on things much bigger than yourself if you're smart.

You are strongest against:

  • Snipers (if you get under their guns)
  • Missile boats w/Heavy missiles and larger (CCP's jacked up missile mechanic means you're taking 10% or less of their total missile damage).
  • Other frigates and destroyers. You can take most of them on, be wary of the enyo and hookbill.

You are weakest against:

  • Drone boats and more drone boats. Avoid them!
  • Close range blasterboats.
  • Web bonused ships. You need speed to succeed.

My biggest kill with a thrasher (200mm + Medium Shield Extender + Afterburner) was a Dominix, but he was a noob who only had a single flight of Acolytes. My biggest real kill was a pvp drake because I took so little damage from his heavy missiles that, after killing his drones, it was just a matter of orbiting at 500m with the AB running and applying DPS.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

Go for any frigate sized target other than an AF or pirate faction (if you don't have a scram.) BCs can be risky but if you MWD in and keep a tight orbit with your scram going and MWD off you can stay under their guns (Kil2 showed this was possible in one of his solo commentary vids.) Cruisers can be a little iffy because of how fast they can be. When in doubt, count backwards from three, say **** it and engage; your ship is only 12m fitted after all.

I fought against some HM boats with web, even dual web sometimes. This hurts when I depend on speed. On the other hand...a shield tank with dual web + point doesn't have that much tank left (except the current Drake)...so I'd say it can be tricky at least.

Single target? Engage EVERYTHING. After a while of doing that you'll figure out what targets you, with your skills and your fit, will have a better chance of taking.

In my experience the pilot you are up against is as important than what type of ship he/she is flying.
