Does anyone else miss the old sounds?

The roaring wind as you entered and exited warp, the loud wwwrrryyyyyPCHEWWW of a stargate. The gentle WUB WUB WUB of a warp disruptor's warm embrace.

Add some low end frequency to some of the gun sounds. Those 1400s should shake my walls.

This, damn it.

It won't even take that much work.

Step 1) Go the the UK.
Step 2) Find a Challenger tank that's firing for whatever reason.
Step 3) Record the incredible, eardrum-slamming, earth-shattering boom of an actual cannon
Step 4) Make artillery sound like that
Step 5) ???
Step 6) Profit!

The concept of using the sounds of real ordinance sounds excellent to me!

How about using the sounds of a real battleship firing off!

I'd love to read a dev blog and watch a video about setting up microphones on battleships, tanks, multiple-rocket-launch-systems etc.

I'd 'like' that on Facebook!

Seriously, finding real sounds to use wouldn't be hard. It's not as if they're copyrighted or anything.

1400mm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=-5ATYPrZnSQ#t=87s

800mm AC: http://youtu.be/sALiuWg_I1k

Heavy Missiles: http://youtu.be/qRWxi_kz_sY

Cruise Missiles: http://youtu.be/4u-SrYRUAlc

The challenge would either be finding the original, non-crappy recordings, or making their own recordings. But I'm pretty sure most militaries would cooperate with sound samples as long as they were mentioned somewhere. It's like advertising.

If you're tweaking sounds, can you please change capital blasters? they still sound like wheezing choo choo trains, which sounds like it suits more to an episode of Thomas the Tank Engine than EVE. Even the old capital blaster sound is better than the one we currently have.

I do really miss those sounds. A lot of sounds have improved, but some of the oldies were goldies.

I noticed a sound bug when docking.
Some weird static for about 0.5 sec.

I only noticed it because I was listening to missile effects before docking. Otherwise... EVE has sound?

Thanks for good points!

We did some changes but realized the falloff for some of the turrets, especially the larger ones, is too short now - resulting in some unbalance. We will fix this. We're also looking at the turret sounds in general and will probably make some changes later this year.

And a note to those who like more powerful turret sounds: we understand but at the same time have to be very careful when making any sound as powerful as we'd really like since many powerful sounds at the same time may often become extremely tiresome.

Again, thanks very much for taking the time to write.

Awesome. Yeah that was a problem with 800ac's at least, especially in a mach where u tend to zoom out a bit more than normal.

I'm sure our sound people will be thrilled that they are getting feedback, no matter the reason. I'll pass this on to them to take a look.

now we know the existence of a sound team, any chance of a compleate sound overhaul, alot of the guns still sound extreemly underwhelming and bland, especuly the projectile weapons, sound like pea shooters.

Large Railguns. The noises they make are pitiful, timid and unsastifying. No power or kick to them. A small launcher drowns them out completely both in volume and verocity.

You should damn well know when a battleship is nearby. One way or another your underpants should be damp.

Hah! Looked at the title, was expecting an 'eve has sound?' bug joke, I was not dissapointed.

Thank you.

Count yourself lucky you can even hear sound, I have a crippling memory leak every time the audio's enabled in EVE that's existed since sometime around Crucible.
