Meh.

Don't much like it - not at all - but I can live with it. Wish the bugs had been handled better, but that'll go away after a while, I'm sure.

But why, really, did it need 'fixing' in the first place? What we had before was entirely functional, and anyone who couldn't handle it simply hadn't bothered to learn how, or was entirely green, and would've soon enough learned. This was an unncessary sink of Dev time and effort, to my thinking.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

New inventory is fine. Still have my ships and items panel in station to. Actually, I wasn't convinced they had a new inventory UI for the first 2-3 minutes until I found it. Everything seemed pretty normal to me, and when I found it, I wasn't overjoyed but I had no complaints either.

Somehow, that seems rather flippant and pat. Are you sure about all that ?????

It's taking a bit to get used to, but it's not a problem. I really don't agree with the people freaking out over it. New inventory is fine.

I agree with OP. The new inventory system is a huge improvement, despite what a few highly vocal whiners might say. Its simple, compact, and I love the filters. Its annoying getting used to it as old habits break hard, but all around its an improvement.

the only change I've noticed is when I double click my ship it opens my cargo and drone bay at the same time and instead of the tabs being on the top they are on the side. oh and below is every other ship in station.

ships/items tabs are merged with station panel. still have the assets window for all the other stations and whatnot. dunno what the fuss is about

Actually... the UI is quite nice. Yeah sure there are a few features I'd like to see missing right now. You know basic things like the UI remembering previous window positions, an option to sort your ships by type instead of name. Then again those things can be categorized as "nice to have" it's much more important that the core functionality is solid and works (which it does).

I wonder all the time what people are complaining about not being able to do this and that quickly anymore. I actually have to click a lot LESS now and mess around with a lot less windows that can get in the way of me doing stuff.

Maybe for the extremely dumb here's a pro tip: you can actually drag'n'drop items from your active window ONTO the entries in the tree structure on the left.

This! It's the whole point of the new system. Seems like a majority of the haters aren't hating the NEW system so much as they're hating all the extra work they're making for themselves by insisting on using it like the OLD system. :P

Ok, you guys can go back to having your billion windows all over the place, and meanwhile I'll enjoy having a capacity meter that's actually useful (and selection dependent!) and isk estimates and filters and oh yeah I can actually see the game world now when I play the game, which is kind of a bonus.

and they still won't ever say WHY.

Well you only had to ask my good man! Unfortunately I can stalk the forums every single minute hoping to reply to quotes because, you know. Life. I has one, so it's a tad late.

Reason 1) The Filters. Insanely powerful and can make sorting out loot for either sell or refine in a single click.
For example set up the following filter:

Greater than Meta 2
Less than Meta 5
Estimated market vaule Greater than 100,000 isk

Click it and boom all the loot thats worth selling appears, ready to be dragged into your ship for hauling to a hub, also stops you from picking up your tech 2, faction and deadspace.

Reason 2) Station Warehouses. They now act like tabs, a bit like a corp hanger divisions use to work, I tend to use them a lot for certain things, I have one for ammo and then one for refine trash and for stuff waiting to hit the market on my next run, just click on the tab on the left side bar, select what you want (Pro-tip filter to serperate faction ammo from the trash ammo) drag and drop straight into the ships cargo. Super easy and only needs one window.

Reason 3) Estimated Market cost. At a glance I can work out roughly just how much ISK I have sitting there in minerals, or loot whatever so it's easier to work out just how much I'm sitting on. More useful around plex time. One argument I keep hearing about this is people bitching that it doesn't work on deadspace/faction in their region. What the feck did they expect? To sell it in Everyshore? You sell it at a hub or use a contract like you use to before the damn system change.

Is the system perfect? No. It could do with some tweaking when it comes to POS's and Flying in space, it certainly doesn't need a major overhaul, and is vasty superior to the old system in a lot of ways.

Just need to use your brain a bit to get the most out of it.

I lied :o

I like the new inventory too! My only gripe is that it sometimes lags(opening a rader site container after hacking it). I love the meta level sorting system too and now drag and drop requires less movement from my mouse as well as its always in the same place so i don't need to scan the whole screen to find the "right" window.

Estimated isk value is a bit strange though, it sometimes overestimates or underestimates the value. (had a 3m[selling market/contracts] module and inventory estimated it to be 11m and so on).

Other than that i have no issues with it, miles better than the old one.

Yeah I love it too when you open up a folder then open up a second it replaces the first one you had opened.

Very intuitive!

Totally agree ^^

In addition to which, it's highly suspect that the Op and most others who totally like the new Inventory system are NPC Corps.

I would very much like the option of the previous icons and item hangars and views, please.

Hi CCP!

I love the new inventory system and I see where you're going with it. However, with it's current release, you'll make a LOT of your existing customers mad. Please, in order to avoid a huge protest etc, try to keep things similar to how we're used to using them, yet enhance our day to day tasks. As I said, the new system is better, but please don't remove our old functionality that we are used to.

ShockedArrowAttentionTippia has made a pretty awesome video you should watch.

And wrote a blog (12-05-14)

Anyway, random mumblings (the video you need to watch). I'm writing a long-form blog post about it as well, but it'll take a while to finish…

My final opinion on this and I'm done with updating this thread.

I strongly feel that the direction you're going with the inventory is a good one. However, it's current iteration is counter to the objectives it seems you're trying to meet. If you release it in it's current state, you will have a huge uproar of the EVE community. I get it, you guys know what's right for the game you love. However, we know how we play the game on a daily basis.

Please take note of the blogs that are out there and the video Tippia made. It clearly shows the flaws in the system that should be fixed as they are BROKEN.

Please listen to me and the countless people in this thread devs. We are also passionate about this game. Many of my personal ideas have been iterated into EVE. I don't suggest things that will hurt this game.

IdeaSuggested Enhancements

  • We need yes... NEED the ability to rename corporate hangars at pos's. (pic) (12-05-13)

  • Dual pane view similar to Total Commander . This would make you UI people gods and probably be, in my humble opinion, the greatest improvement to the inventory system.

  • Dual Pane idea clicky

  • Being able to drag ships from the index like below to make them active would be a good idea especially when you need to fit a lot of ships in one go. (image) (link) (clarification)

  • Inventory windows/cans don't remember their size or position. (12-05-11)

  • Old behavior of windows when docked, you'd undock, they would close but upon re-dock, they would re-open has been asked to return. For example, I'd like my ship window to open by default every time I dock or my corporate hangar to re-open if it was the last window I had open.

  • Filter filtering...
  • The ability to create a filter that includes Medium Turrets + Medium ammo only. For example. I can do this, however finding all the names of the medium turrets is a challenge. I understand this may require adding an additional flag to turrets in the database and isn't an 'overnight' fix.

I just wanna see projectile ammo, or hybrid etc. (clarification)

  • Keyboard shortcut (similar to windows 7- winkey+{type} )does application searches. Would be great to have this implemented into EVE on some fashion. (link)

  • Easy transferring of custom filters between characters/accounts.

  • Right Click > Find in assets on modules/ship fitting window, market etc.

  • To make setting up custom filters easier , if you could drag multiple items to the new filter button and it would generate a filter automatically based on the items and bring you to the "name new filter" dialog.(12-05-14)

  • Create Simlinks to familiar shortcuts. MS did this with Libraries. When I click on a custom library on the left tree, it would open a custom filter (I.E.: Ammo AND Turrets). This is accomplished with custom filters.

  • Naming of corporate tabs.

IdeaNeocom Stuff to Enhance Inventory:

  • Custom Shortcuts on the Neocom.

  • Bring back ship button that goes straight to your ship container. A corporate hangar button would be great!

  • Right click menu on neo com for inventory to go to 'explore' that part of your tree. <-- this should be the new corporate hanger behavior.

AttentionPotential Bugs

  • This is likely a bug: Unassembled ships do not show as a folder under "Ships" in the new inventory system. (link)

  • There is no way to distinguish between locked and unlocked BPO's. (EVE Time: 2012.05.23 09:25)

  • AND / OR queries seem to make it so there are no results. i.e: Ammo AND Turrets returns no results instead of showing Ammo... and... Turrets. This has been solved. There is a 'match' bubble down by the area where you name the filter. "Match "any".

  • Inventory size not updating to proper value causing errors. (link)
