If you're only expecting to hit Gurista or Serpentis NPCs in missions, a Rokh isn't a bad way to go. For damage flexibility and capless damage dealing, I'd agree an SNI is a solid choice.

learn both...lol

Rokh, and by extension naga, gets you pvp. Naga is a liked BC. Rokh.....here is my take on BS level combat. You are whipping this out for "blob" fights and pos bashes. What I did anyway on the combat char in 0.0. Unless you really need the e-peen of high damage on kill mails, choice here is not make or break imo. Here's why. BS fleet on BS fleet, it will you and 40 of your friends relearning your ABC's. 40 BS on one primary starting with the lettter A (or Z lol) , being 200 dps less than say a pest not end of the world. Your target is living a short life regardless. Structure bash, you being one more 1400 arty boat is not omfg this TCU or station bash is going so much faster. 5 rokhs out of 100 arty pests....those 5 rokhs replaced by 5 more pests will not be damn this tcu/station dies in half the time. You'll need a cyno and mommies, titans and assloads of dreads to get that effect.

Raven(variants) gets you pve. My best isk maker in eve has been the humble raven. Spammed the **** out of belts, even got me a pre-nerf officer spawn when they were a bit easier.

level of skill for this....your needs may vary. Unless you hookup with a strict t2 or deth crew, you could do well with cruise missile 4. It made me billions in 0.0 ratting. And the only pvp ship I flew fit with cruise missiles was a jam scorpion. Unless really strict, most places could give a rats ass about your missiles. run the jams, run them well and thats what many will only care about. In a jam scorpion, you aren't there to be top damage dealer.

guns ='s t2, no way around that.

Scorpion Navy Issue is the best BS to use with low skills. you are going to out DPS a raven any day with it because you can fit BCU accross the bottom and shield tank the mid slots. Where on a raven you have to sacrafice the BCU's for cap rechargers.

I thought cap rechargers were a mid slot item? I'm not on Eve at the moment so forgive me if I'm incorrect on this.

"low skills" and "battleship" shouldn't be in the same sentence. A good rule of thumb is if you can't fit T2 modules and drones you shouldn't be in a battleship. The exception would be the high slots since T2 launchers and guns take a while.

Fly the Drake till you get decent skills. If any ship in Eve is forgiving of low skills it's the Drake. You don't need to work about capacitor, heavy missiles have less signature radius issues with smaller targets than cruise missles, and it tanks like a beast!

Before I get flames this is just my opinion and advice. I'm not forcing anyone to take it. You will get different advice in Eve because everyone has different experiences and opinions.

No need to flame I have a tengu and I still like to do lvl 4's in my drake i never have to warp out of any of them, drones take care of the frigates cheaply and the drake can kill a BS rat usually in 10 or less volleys, since mwd's started working in missions the frigates can't even catch me unless I want them to.

Well some people get upset when you say to train the skills before you fly the ship so that's why I said that. I was a new pilot once and I don't look down on newer pilots. I learned the hard way about not flying ships I didn't have the skills to fly so I was just trying to pass that off to someone else so they don't learn the hard way as well.

As for the Drake it's good even with basic skills and becomes much better with good skills. I did level 4's solo in my Drake even with my shield compensation skills at 3 and the Battlecruiser skill at 4. I've never had to warp out of a mission room in a Drake. I've never lost a Drake in a mission. I can't say the same for either one with the Raven. Although the loss of the Raven was due to me not paying attention when I was warp scrambled.

Of course you can do L4 in a Drake. But a raven/CNR/SNI will do them way faster. Because you can do something in a ship doesn't mean it is the best ship for that.

Also, having a L4 BS boat allows you to refit your drake for PvP and mess around with a cheap BC, while you money making ship is safe.

Actually I was curious so I fit a Navy Issue Scorpian and I gotta say it doesn't really out DPS my Drake by much Drake without Drones gets 414 DPS and 2615 alpha Scorpian without Drones gets 450 DPS and 3128 alpha. The Scorp has about 1/3 more tank, but I bet the Drake applies its DPS better. And it can run its MWD for a little under an hour without capping out, couldn't run an afterburner on the Scorp for more than 7 + mins

The Raven is a bad ship only useful if you intend to move to a CNR. If you intend to move on to PvP, don't waste your time with it.

Your main choices are: get better at flying the drake for now while you raise cash or switch training over to gunboats. We have no idea what your current budget looks like, and I see some people throwing out some really expensive fits in a thread started by someone who's still running Level 3s. You probably won't get to those without some intermediate step that can run 4s efficiently.
