Not sure how it is these days but back in 2006 the barrel roll emote was patented by EA.

Ugh how depressing...it was a long time ago though. And I might consider settling for not being able to control spontaneous flight animations... sigh...

CCP have been pretty strongly anti-formation. But its pretty cruel of them to put things in trailers because they are cool, and then not let us do it in game.

And why exactly would they be against formations? Because it puts too much strain on the server?

I wouldn't mind seeing various maneuvers and formations added. Just imagine how awesome it would be to fly a group of Frigates through a barrage of missiles and gunfire, rolling around to avoid getting hit, and then after killing their target(s), doing an Immelmann Turn (for show) and then burn back to the larger ships in the fleet. It would look epic, but it would most likely kill the servers the moment anyone tried to do it.


Without Line of fire mechanics (not begin able to shoot through ships and hit other ships) there is not really a need for full manual flight or formations.

Introducing these things would completely change PVP in eve. Whether or not that would be good or bad, I have no opinion because it will never happen.
