Do a barrel roll.

I just watched the Inferno trailer.

There was an awesome barrel roll.

I want barrel roll.

It doesn't have to DO anything, it can be purely cosmetic.

But I wanna make Peppy Hare proud by rolling my Rifter.

Who is with me?

can we just do it by pressing 'z' or 'r' twice?

And after we barrel roll, we can use the MWD to get through!

Introduce barrel roll and I clearly see the future development:

Tournaments are not only PvP anymore, it will be formation flight contests (additionally?)...

Oh yeah. And let us buy color smoke for afterburners (as charges) to support formation flights! Big smile

CCP have been pretty strongly anti-formation. But its pretty cruel of them to put things in trailers because they are cool, and then not let us do it in game.

Well noone is telling you you can't do it in game. Get a bunch of friends and manually pilot into formation :)

And why exactly would they be against formations? Because it puts too much strain on the server?

I wouldn't mind seeing various maneuvers and formations added. Just imagine how awesome it would be to fly a group of Frigates through a barrage of missiles and gunfire, rolling around to avoid getting hit, and then after killing their target(s), doing an Immelmann Turn (for show) and then burn back to the larger ships in the fleet. It would look epic, but it would most likely kill the servers the moment anyone tried to do it.

CCP say that unless there is a gameplay reason that works, they don't want to add formations.

Now that I think about it, this could fit well with CCP's current philosophy, taking the game back to its spaceship roots.

Barrel rolls and other tricks could be a kind of spaceship emote.

let me reference the underlined part, and just say, NO! lets not encourage them to break physics more than they already are. you don't twirl about in a space ship. that's how you go about killing your crew.
and in reference to the bolded part. (I'm taking a line from the oatmeal here) in the name of zeus' thunderclapping butthole, NO. I'm pretty sure any time I've seen references to emote in eve, they have been shot down with the verbal equivalent of the initiation of world war 3. do you know why? look at wow, having to watch a crowd of people doing the same little r******* dance is just plain painful. it's not cute, it's not a neat feature of the game, it's obnoxious and mostly used to get peoples attention.

I'm not talking about spaceships dancing, im talking about 'aerial' manuevers. And if doing a barrel roll would kill the crew, then some of the **** i do in my Rifter would turn them into a fine mist. They are talking about fixing up combat cameras and such, but whats the point if you can't taunt your dead victim with a barrel roll or blinking your lights?

First off your "crew" is robotic drone tech.

Secondly, barrel roles will not break the game mechanics.

Lastly, it just looks cool.

But the only problem is that, you don't actually "Fly" ships in EVE, you are linked to your ship's super "near-human" artificial intelligence and you command it, and IT (the onboard ship AI) actually does the flying of the ship. That is why you bounce off of asteroids instead of smashing into them when you stop paying attention and why our ships maneuver so slow and sluggishly looking. If we actually flew them, we would need a twin joystick peripheral to play EVE (because Space ships fly in the "fourth dimension" unlike aircraft which only fly in two and three dimensions) and they would fly a lot more eratically and more human like. AI flying is why our ships move like they do.

You command your ship, you don't fly, the computer flies it for you. Technology is DESIGNED to make laziness easier.

They did put a capsuleer shooting another while walking in stations in a trailer.

Also fourth dimension lol. If you really want to control your ships completely (as in actually fly them instead of click where to fly) you'd have to use a 3+1 axis controller (joystick with twist and speed select). On one hand it would be fun to some of us if EVE worked like that, but ultimately that requires twitch mechanics the game and servers aren't built to handle.

I don't want complete control. I want to be able to bind a key, or use a context menu, to select 'perform barrel roll' and other such maneuvers to taunt my foes.
