I recently joined a rookie friendly corporation, And everyone seemed nice enough. Shortly after we got into a war, and i was told to join the battle, i refused as i was very inexperienced and didnt really know what i was doing. A couple days after my corporation asked me to join in with mission running, but after turning up, i was targetted and destroyed by about 15 members of my corporation. Was i in the wrong for not helping in battle, or should they have respected me for my decision being a rookie to the game?

Sounds like that corp is very rookie friendly.

EDIT: Actually, they probably assumed you were a spy.

Your corp requested you help on a difficult task, you refused. They sought your help on an easy task, which benefited you, and you showed up.

I would have killed you and kicked you too. Your actions indicate you were doing nothing more than leeching off the corp which is frowned upon.

Well put, Lady Ayelpsia. OP you are wrong.

A player corp isn't there to give you hand outs. They also gave you a good lesson - earn your keep.

Whether you know what you're doing or not, you can fit a frigate and come shoot stuff. Inexperience isn't a good excuse for not showing up.

That said, if you weren't told before that it was expected of you to show up for such things, them blowing up your ship was a little...hasty. Were I your CEO I'd have told you "look, we play together and we fight together. If you can't do both, you're out. Next time you're on and we need you, you'd better show up."

The problem here is no one communicated. They (apparently) didn't make sure you understood you were *expected* to be there. You let inexperience be an excuse instead of asking questions and gaining that experience. Then they didn't address the problem, but instead immediately attacked you.

Everyone involved did a lot of dumb things. Welcome to Eve?

Oh I see...you don't know how to hit undock, lock a target, click scram/web, click orbit and press F1 to shoot your guns. No wonder why they shot you. You're useless!

I don't know how people expect to get pvp experience in this game unless they actually, I dunno...try pvping? If your ship got blown up during a corp-led op they typically reimburse your loss or at least give you something towards buying a new one.

OP, you should have told them that you were a brand new player with no experience but that you would be happy to help with whatever you could do. They could have just needed you to run missions in an effort to make ISK for the war effort. They may wanted to just use you for bait and given you a free ship to do it in.

While you are brand new, there are services you can still perform to help your corp/alliance out. If you just flat out refused to help them without exploring options on what you could have done, then you are in the wrong and were then executed for it.

Who's ship ended up as a source of rig materials? That usually tells you who's in the wrong in a given situation.

Touche, good sir. Touche. However when participating in a corp you usually give up certain freedoms to play how you want for the cause of the corp, that is if they even have one at all to begin with. If you don't sometimes do what they want you to then they will play how they want and it could involve killing you lol.

After reviewing the Swarm Legion I would highly recommend finding a much better corp that, you know, understands how to fit friggen ships! These guys are so incredibly fail and obviously haven't even bothered reading the descriptions of the ships or even the recommendations for how they should be tanked.

Corporation is a cooperative engagement with other pilots. You help when things are bad, you help when things are good. If people dont help when things are bad, then those that do try to help pay even more. Even if you are inexperienced there are always things you can do.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Welcome to EVE. I hope you learned someting here. We recently just got out of war and had rookie mining pilots throwing themselves to the lions just because they felt they HAD to. Just because you are new, does not mean you are useless. I hope you have learnde EVE Lesson #1.... NO ONE IS SAFE Have a nice dayLol

You were "wrong" for not helping, but they were wrong for being total dicks about it, IMO.

Don't let it get you down, OP. I've joined "rookie fleets" on other chars only to be booted for not knowing things about the game I was told I would be taught...in that fleet. I've come a ways since then, you just have to bounce back. Big smile

These guys routinely recruit in rookie help. Who would join a corp that spams help chat for noobs?

I think your question answers itself...
