Queries on use of storage silos

Clarification please, from someone using Storage Silos. Have reviewed guides, etc., & having "senior moment" wrapping my mind around their functions and constraints. Due to R/L limits to time online, am considering addition of one or more silos in very specific cases. Please assume tax rate(s) are zero for import/export.

Case 1: Strip mining colony on very resource-rich planet. Extraction rate both robust & sustainable. Time between my online sessions is greater than time to fill Launch Pad to 100%. Seek to maintain extraction rate while reducing risk of lost production. Am I correct in how following setup would function?

- Multiple Extractors w/ R0s routed to single silo, silo linked to Launch Pad. As R0s begin to accumulate in silo, establish route for R0s from silo to LP. R0s now travel "thru" silo to LP.
- If/when LP capacity = 100%, R0s now begin to accumulate in silo automatically.
- When I come back online, export R0s in LP to Customs Office, and any R0s in silo will now transfer to LP automatically for final export.
- Pls advise on any error/omission?

Case 2: Factory colony. Same time constraints as Case 1. Seek to extend production time by placing greater amount of materials in the colony. Am I correct in how following setup would function?

- Three types of materials imported to planet. {A, B, and C}
- Launch Pad linked to single silo w/ material A routed from LP to silo.
- From silo, type A routed to appropriate factories, and factories' output routed to LP.
- As silo capacity opens up, additional units of A transfer from LP to silo automatically.
- Materials B and C routed from LP to appropriate factories, and factories' output routed to LP.
- Appropriate quantities/ratios of A, B, and C imported to planet now based upon planet-side storage capacity of { LP + Silo}.
- Pls advise on any error/omission?

Any assistance most welcome. Thank you, in advance, for your time.

I'm pretty sure you cant route from one storage to another storage. Haven't tested it actually

And I would consider to not Im-Export P0 at all. Even when using PI related resources on processing P0->P1 and allocating the rest to extract P0, you'r depleting your extraction spots quite rapidly.

I think if your output from a factory goes through a path of multiple storage facilities, you can route from one to another but not directly. Ie transiting only.

Your setup sounds pretty good. Actually I never thought of using extra space of lps by routing stuff through them. Assuming they are in transiting mode, everything should route automatically and can be a more efficient use of space.

Thanks to Sala and Zifrian.

Clarification. Recognize the irritation factor of exporting then importing R0 materials. Assume tax rate is 0%. R0s are feeding a corporate network.

If anyone reading this has hands-on experience feeding a factory colony with 2-3 differing inputs, your observations on Case 2 would be most welcome.

You cant route from storage to storage. So this is not working.
But you can use expedited transfers from storage to storage. thats the only way to move stuff from storage to storage.
Note that the sending storage receives a cooldown to execute the next expedited transfer to any other location, which depends on the upgrade level of the link between the two storages.

Two items A,B import scenario:
Import A to SP
Expedited transfer to silo A
Import B to SP
Route Silo A to factories processsing A
Route B from SP to factories processing B
Route all factory outputs to SP.

Tree items ABC scenario:
If you need full capacity of storages for all items, you will need a second SP, because of mentioned cooldown on SP after expedited transfer.

Setting up a route from a storage to a storage, no. But I think what he's saying is:

Factory X -> Storage A -> Storage B -> Storage C -> Factory Y -> whatever

Then route the output of Factory X to Storage C. This way if C gets full (long times not being active etc) B will fill, then A. This way he can keep dumping stuff into Factory X and then Factory Y will just keep grabbing materials regardless and not worry about C being full.

I'm thinking that's the concept he's thinking of. You can do the above, I've just never really tried it when the storage C is full but in theory it should work.

I am unsure about your proposed multi-storage methods. What I tend to do with P0 only planets is have two ECUs with an equal number of heads. One ECU is routed to my launchpad, the other to a storage facility. When I'm ready to pull up the P0s I just grab the stuff on the launch pad, then do a manual transfer of the stuff in storage to the newly-empty launchpad and pull that up as well.

You can leave the system be alone a bit longer if you do P0 > P1 on planet. Route all your P0 to a storage facility, then have your factories draw P0 materials from it and dump the finished goods on your launchpad.

I presently have a setup with 5 planets, 4 of them are making P0 > P1 and the 5th assembles them all into a single line of P3.
However, I need to maintain that system at least once a day to keep the factories humming.

The most hands-off thing I can think of doing is a P0 > P2 single planet setup. Because the M3 size of the products is so small by the time they reach the P2 stage, you can let the planet cook a very long time without touching it.

I've found success with two ECUs, 4 P1 factories (2 of each type) and 2 P2 factories... all routed to and from the launchpad.

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

No thats not going to happen. You'll end with C full and A , B emty.
Storages dont store transiting resources.
