Eve development resources have been shifted to focus on Dust514 and World of Darkness. What you are seeing is a slowed down progress because of this. If CCP is able to afford hiring more people to work in the art development aspect, then I'm sure they would be doing that right now. I believe that they cannot afford expanding their staff when they have too much development resources tied up with other games (that which is not currently generating any revenue) and an old game (Eve) that is starting to show signs of age, and possible decline.

But I'm all for putting in more development for Eve. I could care less how they do it as long as they find something that works.

I respectfully point out that you are wrong, sir, and ask that you not listen to skuttlbutt. We do not move EVE devs out of EVE. In fact, when we did Apocrypha, staff from WoD and DUST were moved to EVE. These kinds of things happen quite often, where we may borrow resources from WoD or DUST and use them in EVE.

Additionally, we are a company of 600 people, of which, we have quite a number of resources working on EVE.

Fallout, he didn’t state anything about moving developers from one game project to another. He used the term development resources. Being that Eve is the only product that CCP has that is generating revenue it is safe to assume that part of that revenue is being used to pay for the development of World of Vamps and Dust.

Those are the resources he implied I believe. To me this is not such a great sin as long as Eve is still receiving the development resources that it warrants. I am afraid though that the last expansion felt more like a beta for WoD and Dust character creation than anything else. The fact that we didn’t even get walking in stations but instead just walking in circles lends itself that Incarna just did enough to test concepts that would be used in other CCP titles.

With this CCP has given many of us the perception that Eve has become the red headed step child, or worse still the lab rat to try out new ideas and concepts on. It would not be so bad if we would have received truly Eve focused content in addition to the rest. But when the high light of the FiS elements of the last expansion were new turrets you can’t be surprised by people grumbling wanting truly new content.

It can’t be helped but to imagine what we could have gotten in the last expansion if all the resources that the revenue that Eve creates was spent on Eve. To think how much sooner those long term projects could be completed or the number of new features and bug fixes that could be performed. But we know that is a pipe dream. Yet I think it is fair to desire some progress in Eve that is well Eve based.

Right now all we have are hints that some ships and some regions of space are going to get nerfed to improve null sec are coming in this winter expansion(s). I know that is very broad statement to make of the blogs I have read but it is the general feeling that I have of them. There have been no teases or hopes there of any thing that I can look forward to this winter. There is the long term 5 year plan but it is as vague as a fortune cookie prediction.

In other words I don’t have much to look forward to in the next expansion as of yet. I hope that in the coming weeks that will change as more info is revealed about it and what it is supposed to include. Until then I will wait and see if CCP’s future actions can dispel my negative perceptions that their prior actions of late have created.

You need a bigger art department?

Start feeding him more Bagels.

It should increase size in a matter of weeks.

Often the reason why companies are a little hesitant to hire "specialists" is that the work load can be inconsistant.

Sometimes you need more, but then you are faced with the prospect of laying off those people you hired 6 months ago because the need for their specialty isn't constant.

That being said, with the road map that is beginning to emerge for the near and far future of EVE, from my (limited) point of view I don't see any time in the reasonably near future where less graphics work will be required.

I feel that I am in danger of sticking my nose into internal issues that are none of my business, but I have to agree that maybe it IS time to review staffing levels in the graphics department.

The Mammoth looks worse now than when Eve started, so yes, more artists are required.

But seriously though, we should start a running list of all the features we've requested only to be turned back because of the "art is busy, please try again in 6 months" excuse...
