Hi all,

I'm going to write an EVElopedia page with some helpful UI hints and tips, mostly for hidden features and stuff you can do with the UI which people might not know about.
There are aready great threads like this one, and I have collected the UI hints from there and put together the list below.
I was hoping you could help me by pointing out more (hidden) UI features I might be forgetting.

While tips on how to play the game are great, I am looking for tips on UI functionality (but please post your game playing tips here to help others).

General[list]
  • Clicking those small icons with the 4 lines will give you a menu with more options for the item.
  • There are shortcuts for almost all windows as well as combat and navigation commands, and those shortcuts can be assigned in the ESC menu.
  • When in space, you can drag your ship user interface to the right or left to suit your preference. You can also align it to top and configure it differently through the menu icon on the right side of it.
  • The onscreen location of your locked up targets can be moved. You'll want to find a small, white indicator that can be dragged wherever you want it to be. Your targets are anchored to it.
  • Targets can be rearranged by dragging and dropping.
  • You can deactivate an active module on a target by clicking its icon on the right side of the target.
  • If you double click in space you will align to the place you clicked, and the ships sets full speed. The ship will not stop on its own.
  • You can add whole categories/groups from the market to the quickbar by right clicking them and select "add group to quicbar root/folder"
  • There is a compare tool. you open it from the variation tab in info windows or through a shortcut. When it's open you can drag stuff to it to compare it.
  • If you drag the solarsystem menu icon (above your route) to any edit field, you create a link to your solarsystem
  • When sending mail to your corp or alliance, you can write "corp" or "alliance" in the TO field and it will be converted to the name of the corp/alliance (only available for character with the role "communications officer").
  • You can sort your mails by assigning them labels. Each mail can have many different labels.
  • You can display the session change timer. There is a setting to turn it on in the ESC menu.
  • You can list the meta level of each item in your hangar by displaying them in list or detail view then right clicking the header and selecting, "show meta level"
  • There are filters in the settings tab in the market window. There you can filter out orders, but also filter the list on the left hand side so it won't show you stuff you cannot use on your current ship or don't have the skills for
  • The search field in the asset window has clever advanced search functionality (see devblog)
  • When in space, if you click something and hold the mouse down, you get action panel
  • You can zoom better in on things by holding down the right mouse button, move the mouse a little bit up or down, and then hold down the left mouse button (holding both down) and move the mouse up.
  • A lot of windows have a '?' button at the top that opens a quick access list of items and link to evelopieda articles and such on how to do things within that window.
  • Blocking a character hides all future chat messages.
  • It's possible to drag the icons in show info windows. In most cases what is being dragged is the type of the item. You can drop the icon in edit fields to create links, as well as drop characters in addressbook and items in quickbar.*
  • Scrolling with the mouse wheel in amount input fields will increase/decrease the amount by 0.01 or 1 (depending on the type of value in the field).
  • In many scrolls/tables/lists, typing the first letter(s) when it has focus will move to the entry that starts with that letter(s).
  • F11 opens up a mini=map
  • F10 opens the star and solarsystem map
  • CTRL+F9 hides the UI
  • Holding down any of the combat shortcuts (and some of the navigation shortcuts) will freeze the overview
  • Hovering the mouse over the overview will freeze the overview. If the mouse doesn't move for X seconds, the overview is unfreezed.A frozen overview is indicated by a padlock instead of the sort indicator triangle. Objects leaving are greyed out in-place, object arriving are added at the bottom.
  • While in space, dragging items onto the cargo hold button in the HUD will move them to the ship's cargo hold.
  • Double-click anywhere in the hangar (while in ship hangar mode in station) to open the cargohold of the currently active ship.
  • Double-click a ship to open its cargo hold.
  • Drag and drop a ship to the hangar view or the Captains Quarters to active the ship
  • In Captains Quarters mode, hover over the ship holograms (at the end of the walkway and in the CQ itself) to get a menu for the ship.
  • In Captains Quarters mode, there is an Undock button at the end of the walkway. It's also possible to use the Undock button in the Neocom to undock immediately.
  • In Captains Quarters mode, you can interact with the 3 large screens and the mirror.
  • If you spin your ship moare than 10 times, a counter will appear.
  • In space, you can rarrange the module buttons by dragging and dropping.
  • You can group weapons of the same type. You do it by dragging the modules on top of each other, either in the ship UI while in space, or in the fitting window. When you are in space, you can group or ungroup all your weapons by clicking a small button ( a circle with two half-circles interlinked) to the left of the module slots.
  • In the fitting window, you can fit a module by dragging it into the center image of the ship. The module will be fitted to an available slot.
  • [*]In the fitting window, you can load ammo...

Unless they change the functionality again:

Double clicking any where in the hanger view pulls up the ships cargo hold. Shift double click opens it in a new window with Index closed.

The action panel line needs a picture of it becouse even the tutorial does not show how it works.

Ships and Items can be added to the Station Services panel using the esc menu.

There is a ships action Log you can access using the Neocom Menu.

Using saved fittings you can fit a new ship the same way as the one you lost as long as you have the fittings in your station hanger. Does not work for fittings, drones or ammo.

You can high light your sell orders in Blue by selecting that option in the Esc menu.

"When sending mail to your corp or alliance, you can write "corp" or "alliance" in the TO field and it will be converted to the name of the corp/alliance "

This only works if you have the role "communications officer".

Haulers utilizing GSCs to maximize their cargo holds only need to open their containers individually once. Arrange the container windows on a grid.

The next time you want to open all your containers, simply select all and choose "Open containers". Not only will this open all your container windows at once, they will open in the same pattern you set them up in for easy transfer of cargo.

Undocking with all your GSC windows open will automatically close them for you.

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

New Inventory system has broken this fuctionality. Hopefully this will be fixed by launch.

    • Dragging your ship name from Fitting Window lets you link the fit in chat instead of a generic link to the ship
    • Scanner Probe strength is hard to find unless someone tells you where it is (http://www.swiftandbitter.com/eve/misc/Probe_Strength.jpg)
    • The Shift/Alt/Ctrl shortcuts for scaling the formation, moving the formation, and changing the radius/size of the spheres (you're missing one of those in your list)

A strange one from the new UI
    If you are looting wrecks and already have a ‘Cargo Hold’ (new inventory, active ship) window open;
If you click ‘Open cargo’ on the ‘Select Items’ window you will approach the wreck and at 2500 m the wreck’s hold will open over the above window with the [Loot All] button on the far left.

However if you click the ‘Approach’ button instead and wait until you are within the 2500 m distance, you can then hold down shift and right click, open cargo to open the hold in a new separate window. It should also retain the same position on the next wreck.

Handy if you want to check what’s lootable before dragging it into your hold.
The above is ‘subject to change’ come patch day.

Setting a shortcut in the [Esc] menu to say [Ctrl]+[O] = 'Open Overview', allows you to open your overview while docked in station so you can make changes before you undock.

  • How do I prevent that from happening? I only want the overview to freeze when I hold CTRL.

(I am leaving out 2 thing on purpose: using slash commands to open windows and double clicking on folders to open the content of the folders in a small window).

Wait, WHY are you leaving those out? I need to know how to use the slash command to open windows.

    One that you missed, however:
CTRL+W closes the currently active window.

    [Edit=1]
A lot of the shortcuts which are not "hidden" are very hushed down, though. And by that, I mean that I would never had known there was a shortcut to make my drones engage a target, or return to drone bay, had I not been told by someone else.

Oh, and now that we're on that tangent, could we please get a shortcut to launch drones? :)
    [/Edit]
    [Edit=2]
Oh look, the CTRL+W one is actually not a hidden shortcut, it's right there in the "General" tab. Geez. Roll

A few windows have extra options when right-clicking the title bar. This is mostly the case for chat windows.

But for some reason, you cannot have it in-between. You can have it at CCP Tallest location on top, or CCP Guard location on bottom, but not anywhere in the middle. :)
