A bit longer answer: Warp core stabs give warp core strength. Warp disruptors remove warp strength. If your warp strength is below 1 you cannot warp. Having your MWD closed is not related to your warp strength.

General rule of thumb: If a module does not specifically say it does something, then it does not do that.
A warp core stab does not say it protects from warp scramblers shutting down your MWD.

Even a bit more info:
Each warp core stab gives +1 warp strenght
a long point (disruptor) removes 1 point
a short point (scrambler) removes 2 points and shuts down your mwd.

So in order to escape from one scrambler you need 2 warp core stabs. (your mwd will still be disabled though)

Ungi maðurinn þekkir reglurnar, en gamli maðurinn þekkir undantekningarnar. The young man knows the rules, but the old man knows the exceptions.

Some faction scramblers removes 3 points, so you need 3 warp core stabs to counter those. e.g. True Sansha Warp Scrambler

And to be complete, a heavy interdictor warp disruption field generator with a fitted focused disruption script has infinitive warp disruption, meaning nothing will let you warp, as long as you are locked and in range.

Additionally in nulsec you can also be stopped by warp disruption fields, either in the form of anchorable mobile warp disruption, or in the form of interdictor deployable warp disruption fields which stay there for a while, or in the form of the before mentioned heavy interdictor field which travels with the ship.

They are called bubbles, due to their appearance, and have infinitive warp disruption strength if you are in them.
They can also be used to "pull" you out of warp away from your intended landing position, if they are placed inline and ongrid with your destination.

Only way to avoid those is to have a T3 ship fitted with a interdiction nullifier.
