That it is, but it has enough depth right from the start to keep new players occupied with all the skill training. I'm currently helping new players get into the game and their achievments are being able to fly new ships and use new modules. That's enough, certainly at the start.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

I wouldn't say no to some gimmick achievements like 'traveled through all systems', 'visited the EVE Gate', 'rescued the Damsel... twice', 'made a million gate jumps', stuff like that.

But never something that leads to real in-game goals like for instance killmails do. Those things have been detrimental to gameplay in many ways and EVE doesn't need another such e-peen goal added.

This is the only achievement that matters.

some of my goals:

* "Have fun."
* "Find interesting people for joining the corp."
* "Get rich compared to my style of play."

{joda} Difficult to measure it is. {/joda}

Anyway.

A archivement system could suggest some goals ... for those who have no idea or are bored.
As long as it does not disturb the already known gameplay, and it maybe sticks some other players playing EVE, ... well ... then i won't say "no".

But i personally do not need it Blink

Feel free to comment, can't wait for your positive contributions, lol !

if you can't come up with your own goals but need someone to define them for you, you're probably playing the wrong game.

(and nothing stops you from making "mastering all frigate skills" your goal today if you desire to do so)

Yes, let's promote grinding and rote behaviour.

There is nothing wrong with grinding outside of hi-sec.

It creates content not only for grinders

I have never claimed a single achievement in any game I have ever played. I have never tried to 'earn' one. I have never claimed a certificate in Eve, even thou my skill training mentions it every time something finishes. I don't care.

I'm sure some people would be drawn by this type of thing.

I make my own game play. If I want to celebrate something because it means something to me I will. A little pop up telling me I've achieve something is not going to do anything more then annoy me because I have to close it.

i wouldn't mind them as long as you don't get anything for them... optional features, best features.

Don't do it man!

They really suck the fun out of a lot of things, trust me.
I should go visit the Eve gate because it looks cool and few people do it, not because I get 10 ISP(Internet Spaceship points)
for doing it.

Edit : Though it would be nice if it stored the text popups from Escalations and DED sites somewhere.

Yeah, i was not expecting too much anyway.

Eve is great cause players can speak out and defend their game, even quit if the devs mess up like SWG.

In the video game industry, that must look like hostage situations, where the slighest bad move can fall appart a unique game developer... and put hundreds of people out of jobs...

Off topic sorry

But isn't that the point? I mean I've got 50,000,000 sp. I wouldn't be effected by it, and honestly I wouldn't use it very much. BUT, if it brings in players, but does NOT promote grinding, I think it would help eve more than hurt without forcing a game change on anyone.

No.

Beats the point of a sandbox. Just, no.
