I would imagine it putting out 1/3 the dps of dread and to be terribad against subcaps, only if you're standing still would it hit you for full damage. You could give them a tracking penalty or reduce the tracking of XL guns in general and give dreads a tracking buff instead.

I'll omit what I had said to save space.

I meant to include the fact that a BS couldn't use a Siege module, so yes, there would be a difference in DPS when this is taken into consideration, but the alpha of an XL gun is MUCH more powerful than the alpha of its Large counterpart. Any multiplication of that alpha doesn't even make this a moot point.

Tracking would not really be an issue, at least with the case I described using long range XL guns. The range is the real determining factor here. They would not need to be in the thick of it, they could just slap on some targeting range and optimal/falloff buffs to their ships and they could hit very hard from very far off where tracking is inconsequential. That's how I imagine it would be used. I don't go into a gunfight with a sniper rifle. I pick them off from a distance.

Now imagine I'm sniping with a 50 mm cannon instead of a .50 cal. Nastiness.

EDIT: Oh, don't forget about target painters. With a carbon copy ship each fielding a target painter, the increase in sig radius means the resolution of the guns is also a non-issue.

Perhaps the battle version should be designed to be far more mobile than a dreadnought UNTIL it starts firing, at which point it must siege and become immobile, to retain better mobility, make it so they can leave siege mode sooner than dreads. Now if someone wants to try an alpha run-by they'll be stuck.

The mental image of a Revelation warping in on top of a Nyx and pointing it made me spit my drink all over my screen.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

I recognize this bullcrap 'Yes [empty line] or [empty line] no' formatting from that other really awful thread. They have the same creator too! Imagine that.
