So, I thought I would attempt to cash in on an evident margin trade scam. Lol

Buy Order for 3 items @ 250m each.

I sell my 3 items for 57.5m each, this figure being 23% or a little under what should be in escrow for the Buy Order.

The Buy Order failed. Shocked ...with no message of any kind and unsubsequently lists my items (which I did not want listing) and made me pay Brokers Fees.

What am I missing here? Why did the Buy Order still fail if I kept the sum under what should of been in escrow?

Have a good one. o7

Edit...

Looking at the Price History I've just noticed that it has data indicating that there was a single sale of 3 items at the 250m asking price, however, the Buy Order failed and there weren't enough items listed ...unless some crazy stuff happened that I missed, but I think thats unlikely. All very strange.

It's broken and it's been broken for a long time and it'll be broken for some time to come.

First off, don't use the advanced sell order function to sell to a buy order unless you set the duration to "instant". If the order had succeeded you would have paid the brokers fee anyway.

Secondly, to answer your question, the margin trading skill reduces the amount you place in escrow as you have calculated. There is an important part that many people don't realise though and that is the isk used to fund purchases made with a buy order are taken in whole from escrow first.

This means that the likely scenario is the trader set a buy order for 6 with a min qty of 3 then immediately sold 3 to himself in order to wipe clear out what was held in escrow. That way they avoid the possibility of losing isk to what you tried.

When this type of thing was first being discussed in here I highlighted this very issue. It seems that the only people who are really catching on are those that are using the margin trading skill in this way.

No worries, it's something that doesn't seem to be known even to some of the more experienced traders. The only bit I forgot to mention which may interest you is that the amount held in escrow is on a per order basis rather than just being a big pool for all orders to take from.

This means that some orders will have isk in escrow and some won't depending on how depleted the order is.
