War Declaration mechanic - as it is

So i got into a debate (re: a shouting match that may or may not have permanently killed a friendship) offsite with another eve player about War Dec, and it has me wondering exactly whats the point of it when you can PvP in high sec in spite of the dec, or go down into low and null and have even more fun.

War Dec, as i understand it and from what i could get from the wiki entry lets you:
-Gank the hell out of another corp and vice verca without Concord stepping in for a sum paid each week by the agressing corp.

Now we all know that you can do this for free (minus ship replacements and standings damage) by suicide ganks. So her argument was this is a absurd mechanic, because, well as i stated above, you can go into low sec or null and do it

I'm basically trying to (probably ineptly) fill in my knowledge gaps here so the next time i get into a shouting match, I am better armed

Lowsec/nullsec doesn't have as MANY idiots as hisec does. Though, some would argue that point :)

A wardec allows you to gank someone (usually inept mission runners and haulers) without losing sec status.

There's a saying in EVE, "People don't wanna fight you. They wanna gank you."

So yeah, hisec wardecs are lame :)

well i thought of another reason to hisec war: less third party getting in on the fun

wardec'n is mostly for gankbears or people who are pvp-challenged. The mechanics are easily exploitable which is partly why they are being changed for Inferno.

From the title I thought this post was going to explain the war dec mechanics because I really don't know. Can you still just avoid the wardec by leaving the corp?

Make faction war occupancy pvp instead of pve https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=53815&#post53815

Clearly you've never met Nova Ardour or God Squad and their army of neutral logistics.

Btw- never worth arguing with anybody in EVE (especially a RL friend) over internet spaceships. Everyone thinks they're right

Do you think I would argue if I knew I was wrong?

That's not a third party, it's a mountain of alts and in an actual fight those alts are functionally identical to in corp characters.

Basically it feels somewhat absurd that you can just war dec and gank people and Concord says "Ah, you guys have a little war here, carry on" and sails away while the gankers burn the often innocent war victims. But in the next pocket of space, something illegal occurs and the criminal is being exploded by the Concord who shouts "better have a war going on next time, idiot!"

I want to see you remove a highsec POS without a wardec.

Wardecs allow you to fight in any ship, even ones that would be stupidly expensive to gank with.

hmmmm, some thoughts to add to this. would the 2 mil/week price be viewed in a certain light as a bribe to concord to stay out of the way? If we move along those lines, mayhap the upcoming war changes could allow the defending corp the option to pay in for hmm limited interventions because they're greasing some palms.

I'm pretty sure there's a way to do that, but I never got around to testing it.

Hi.
read some of the CCP novells about EVE.
Then you understand the war dec mechanics.

War dec system is broken and about to be fixed.
Remove war dec system is fine by me as long as high sec POS, high sec incursion and all L4 agents are moved to low sec.
