Hello.

I believe I know the basics of PI, but I also read that it was possible to produce "tier 3" items on a single planet.

I would be very happy if somone could enlighten me on how to set up my planet, in order to produce Smartfab Units on my lowsec lava planet?

Also, which skills do I need?

I currently have:

Remote sensing 1 (any point in going higher!?
Interplanetary Consolidation 2 (irrelevant here)
Command Center Upgrades 3 (training 4)
Invictra Atreides
Toward the Terra

In theory it can be done, but in practice it will make less isk/h than doing just P1 components on a single planet. Now if you do have the spare isk to experiment then I suggest you put up four extraction units and extract all 4 raw resources and route them to a Launchpad. From there, if you have power grid left, try to combine them into P2 and in the end to P3.

Train remote sensing to lvl 3. It is a prerequisite skill for Planetology and Adv.Planetology. Other use of this skill is in Map view where it shows you the distance to planets that you can reach with this skill. A jump capable ship pilot could benefit from this.
