I dont tend to use damage controls since i prefer gank over tank on most of my fits. That said a well placed damage control would have saved my ass many many times. I'd suggest them to new players as well even if only for the extreme hull resist bonus for emergencies.

Don't try to make fits yourself.
Find fits with solid reviews and comments to begin with and then learn from corpmates etc.

You just don't know enough about eve to begin with to do fits yourself.

Wormholes have the best accoustics. It's known. - Sing it for me -
