WTF CCP!.

How about you use those artists and make starbases less of a pain in the ass, for example?

Edit: nevermind, I shouldn't be too surprised, considering.

They aren't really, from what i gathered is they just gave him the tools to make the avatar and clothes work in the Incarna system and the devs sat back and watched their creation start showing its full potential (graphically and aesthetically wise) while maybe giving tool usage tips along the way (like exporting clothes in just the right way to be compatible with the system) and they let Formichetti do it all.

Once you get used to the shock, it's actually not a bad idea. In fact, I'll have to admit that blurring the lines between the RL and VR fashion industries has the serious potential to be a brilliant, market changing move.

Think about it in a different way: Right now I'd say it's more like a PR gag. But in the future? I don't think CCP would have to pay such designers lots of money to design clothing. Why? Advertising! Why not allow people to buy clothing for their virtual character being inspired (or maybe even mimicing) real products? That way people might even get into actually buying the real stuff too. NeX could become some kind of advertisement space for designers, and that wouldn't be as bad as many would think. It might even allow CCP to expand development een further, considering they'll indeed might be able to sell NeX store space as advertisement space. And don't believe they'll pay top designers hundredthousands of dollars to design clothes for the NeX store. I don't think that would pay off and I'm pretty sure they don't plan on wasting money.

3 words.

CCP Vampire game.

All automated intel should be removed from the game including Instant local/jumps/kills/cynos for all systems/regions.Eve should report nothing like this to the client/3rd party software.Intel should not be force fed to players. Player skill and iniative should be the sources of intel.

I have CQ off when i play the game.

That said, it is surprisingly cool to watch that ZombieBoy do the catwalk, Incarna engine at its finest. I like the whole deal with the fashion designer and I like how RL blends with virtual clothing, making trends, etc.

I think people should be more open to innovation and new ideas, these are the things that make us better.

I'd have thought collaboration with the actual fashion industry would be old hat to the gaming business by now, considering the quality of avatars now appearing in FPSs and some MMOs. Guess not.

Using Carbon for more than EVE was the point from the start, as far as I remember. Allowing external artists to work with the character creation engine is hardly a problem. If anyhting, it is quite innovative.

Just to show you all how much I love you, and because it's my job and I'd like to keep it, I went and asked around to find the answer to this. No EVE resources were killed or maimed in the work related to that fashion thing. In fact that was a requirement for us or we wouldn't have done it. Cool

Over the entire course of the project less than one hour in total was taken up by art direction reviews. All character, animation and lighting art were provided by the Atlanta team, and as we know they are working on something other than EVE Online.

Resources for tech support was taken from core technology, and the Core engineer involved was working on core infrastructure and not any EVE Online feature(s). Smile

Then why does it state that talent artist and programmers from CCP, creators of the game EVE Online, put this together for the fashion show?

Because CCP created EVE Online, and EVE is their most recognizable product.

Its kinda like saying "From Honda, the makers of the Civic", when they are trying to hawk a lawnmower or motorcycle.

Yes, because letting fashion designers and artists who know NOTHING about game design or programming mess with Eve's mechanics is an awesome idea.

Just because someone works for a games studio it doesn't mean they have to be proficient in game design or programming.

9 times out of 10 artists, writers and suchlike have a basic and fundamental grasp, if that.

You might want to get a clue about how a games company works and what each department does before you start making assumptions.

Ugh...Kotaku. I think this is some kinda PR scam to get Sims lovers to subscribe to the game. Dedicated Sci-fi nerds are harder and harder to find these days, what with the Fantasy market blowing up all over the place taking over our children's minds. I'm hoping for a blockbuster scif-fi book/movie/show to come out soon to draw casual interest back to sci-fi games and hopefully attract more space jockeys.

Because dolly dress up is expensive in Eve and really there is no point when nobody is gonna see you in your quarters. It should be Space-ship dress up. You wear your ship more often and way more dudes will see you and either A. compliment you. Or B. Shoot your unique ship. Either way it will spurn social interaction that the current WIS is not doing.

To educate the people out there on why this is a great thing I post this.

Hey we are CCP we teamed up with Nvidia and a few other people to create this new carbon engine to make our incarna.

So you fashion people should look at this.

Fashion people: OMG ITS SO SHINEY AND PRETTY!! Can we use this for the huge new york fashion show and show off your great engine?

CCP: yeah for a price.

New york fashion show: OOOOO! So a gaming company did this and this is what it can do? You know this would be a great product to buy so we can design fashions and test them out proper before we hit the real runway.

Fashion industry : CCP can we has epic product.

CCP: yes but you have to pay us with developers and server upgrades.

Fashion guys : done

Word spreads on this new system.

Other mmo developers: QQQQQQQ Why is everyone buying CCP's products and not ours? Remember everyone hated their incarna and stuff. I guess to keep up we have to have more items for sale, and charge more for expansions.

TL:DR - CCP prolly hit a gold mine with this stuff which IF utilized properly and marketed correctly, could provide huge funding for CCP which means hire more devs, hire more gm's. Development gets done faster, more internet spaceships for us.

Why Can't I have a picture signature.

Also please support graphical immersion, bring back the art that brought people to EvE online originaly.

I think this is something many don't get.

I'm an avid critic of CCP and gave them alot of smack last three months. But one thing I won't give them **** for is, is using resources for out-of-EVE productions. Take a look at EA, or Blizzard, or smaller companies. Almost every single one of them has several productions being paid for by their bigger or main product. And hell this is not only game industry, same for cars, electronics, etc.. not to mention that in this case CCP can even learn something from the process.

Giving someone **** is one thing, but it should be deserved, not just random pointing of fingers.

I kind of have high hopes in the vampire game after they gave some info about their plans. My hope kinda dies realizing the games still in pre-production after 5 years.
